It's Sunday morning and I've just read Wenger's latest excuse for the team's poor run. It's not the referees, the pitches, opponents who exercise their right to participate in a contact sport, or playing too many games. According to him they are suffering from 'grief', and are apparently in some kind of state of mourning.
Is it just me, or does this contradict what he's been saying all along about their 'mental strength'? Is that the same resilience that was on display at home to Sp*rs and away to Newcastle? Ultimately the buck stops with him and his refusal to sign players that would bring experience, grit, and leadership to his Babies XI.
Before I get abuse from the AKB's, I appreciate that it would be madness to relieve of Wenger of his duties without having a better replacement lined up. The managerial circus that occurred at Sp*rs for all those years before Twitch arrived could well happen to us.
However he has to accept that his experiment has failed, his philosophy isn't working, and a lot of the players that he's put so much faith in are not going to blossom. Only by rebalancing the team in the transfer market this summer will we be able to once again seriously challenge for the big trophies. If that means paying over the odds for English talent, then so be it.
