Arsene Wenger seems to be totally oblivious to what is going on off the pitch and in the stands. The Wenger loyalists are starting to turn to the dark side and see only the negatives, and at present there are many.
To many of us, it’s simple. Send him on his way and bring in a new, younger, fresher thinking manager. Who that may be is a massive talking point, and to be honest, not many names spring to mind readily.
But to Arsenal Holdings PLC the answer is far less straightforward. Under Wenger the club has enjoyed unbroken consecutive years of money-spinning Champions League football. High profile ties v Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and of course Barcelona. Only one of which we won of course, but we won’t dwell on that. As well as the runs to some domestic cup semis and finals, the money keeps rolling in at the Grove, making Arsenal the perfect financial role model for any football club across Europe if not the world.
And that in a nutshell is exactly why Arsene Wenger is still the manager at Arsenal after six baron seasons, and why he will remain in a job at Arsenal until HE decides to leave.
Enter Silent Stan.
We still know very little about the man who now basically owns the club, despite the Uzbek and the Fanshares. We have been told very little will change. Mr Kroneke may well have a different view on this come end of May if, as we suspect, we end up potless again. He is an American after all. They are not particularly well known for being patient with people who fail to deliver on their promises, as Wenger has now for the last 3-4 seasons. The promises have vastly outweighed the reality and now all us supporters have to endure another season of beautiful but ultimately fruitless football, as we will next season, and probably many more to come if Wenger remains in his overpowered position at the club.
Like Ferguson at United, Wenger has enjoyed unlimited power and strength in his role as manager which has stretched far beyond a first team manager’s role at most clubs. He has always been the top dog if you will. Mr Kroneke may have a different take on this situation, but until someone within the boardroom says “enough is enough” nothing will change off or more importantly ON the pitch, while the club remain loyal to Wenger. I believe only failure to reach the Champions League would result in Arsene being shown the door. Channel 5 on a Thursday night won’t pack in 60,000 at the Grove, despite what the club attendance announcer would have us believe. This website has been filled with articles concerning our current situation. Many calling for Arsene’s head, and many keeping the faith despite the shortcomings of the team, but we can write and shout and moan all we like. Arsenal Holdings PLC will make the decisions. Only they will hire and fire.
And so our wait will go on for silverware to once again call our own…
