It's not us, Arsene. It's you...It's definitely you

Breaking up is so hard to do

It's not us, Arsene. It's you...It's definitely you

We almost had Paris...

It's not us, Arsene. It's you...it's definitely you. We've grown apart over these last six long years because you’ve changed and, to be perfectly honest, we don't like the new you. You're just not the same man we all fell in love with. Sure, we all change a little over the course of a long term relationship such as ours, but you're just unrecognisable now, aren't you darling?

Shhhhh! Don't say a word. Hush now, don't cry sweet baby, I'm sure we can work this all out. Just listen to what I have to say, please just hear me out, OK? Good, here's a tissue.

Remember the man who changed the face of the Premier League? Remember the man who won the Double in 1998 and built the Invincible side of 2004? Do you remember that man? If you can find that Arsene, the Arsene we all fell in love with, I'm sure we can all learn to love you again, I promise.

You built powerful, combative, direct, flamboyantly attacking teams, the likes of which had never been seen before or since. But, somewhere along the line you changed and it breaks my heart to even say this but, if you can not or will not change back to that man, well it might just be better for all concerned if we started seeing other managers and you found yourself a lovely new club to play with.

After you saw how effectively the Spanish national side and Barcelona F.C. were dominating the vast footballing landscape it's understandable that you tried to copy their style and formation but you have to admit that you've failed to see the full picture and neglected to copy ALL of Barcelona's methods. That is why we are having this conversation AGAIN, ARSENE!

While Barcelona were waiting for their current golden generation to blossom they made big money signings such as Rivaldo, Eto’o, Ronaldinho, Overmars, Henry and more recently Ibrahimovic and David Villa. These players helped show the fledgling Barcelona team what was required to win trophies, and they also added quality in areas that even their marvellous youth system couldn't always provide for. I understand that you might not have always had the best financial resources available to you, due to the costs incurred by the construction of the London Colney training complex and the Ashburton Grove stadium, but surely now you could spend just a bit more freely? You really are starting to look like a right old miser, even though I admit your fashion sense has come a long way since 1996. Well, except for that massive blue jacket you just insist on wearing when it's cold. Are you really that tight that you couldn't even get yourself a decent jacket? You used to buy World Cup winners like Henry and Pires and proven winners like Sol Campbell, but now you buy players like Silvestre and Squillaci. Yes, I know that French football is no longer the force that it once was but you must realise that you can sign players from other countries besides your native France.

If you look at the way that Barcelona and the Spainish national team play you should notice that while they play attacking possession football they are also extremely hardworking without the ball, positionally aware and defensively solid while we, on the other hand, are anything but those things. When you guided us through that unforgettable unbeaten season we conceded only 26 goals, ten goals fewer than we have already conceded this season. Where has the team spirit gone? The tight defence? The mental strength? Maybe you broke up that side a bit too hastily, Arsene, and now you are breaking all of our hearts.

You used to know the value of big, strong athletic players but by trying to copy Barcelona and going for smaller, more mobile players you failed to consider just how different the Premier league is to La Liga. In La Liga the game is slower and far less physical than in the premiership and I would be interested to see how Barcelona would get on over the course of a full premiership season with our weather, playing on our pitches against the leg breakers of Stoke and Birmingham. You need to go back to signing experienced winners and physically imposing players like Patrick Viera, otherwise it might just be time to say Au Revoir and move on with our lives.

Don't look so sad. Yes, I know it's hard. It's hard for me too but at least we had that great unbeaten season, a couple of fantastic Doubles and we almost had Paris.

Every time I walk into Ashburton Grove I'll think of you. A part of me will always love you and look fondly upon our time together but things just can't carry on as they are. It's just not healthy.

You forgot (neglected?) to mention how your former flame inherited a number of players from previous managers, viz an entire world class back four/five and phenomenally good keeper. Bergkamp ought to rate a mention too, don't you think? All in all, your lover's overrated - always has been. Oh, and he never could muster a win in Europe. And how long has he been involved in football management? Too bloody long!!

Joe, you are right, Arsene has changed but this is nothing new in Arsenal managers. I remember Bertie Mee assembling a side in the late sixties, reaching a couple of league Cup finals, (losing both, sounds familiar) but finally hitting upon a winning team, based on a good defence, which went on to win in Europe and achieve our first double. But what did he do? Instead of slowly replacing players he started to dismantle the side far too soon and consequently the great side faded away within a couple of seasons and came very close to relegation by 1974/75. Fast forward ten years and George Graham came into the managers chair and set about building a team that would eventually win two Championships and come very close to an unbeaten season.Make no mistake that early Graham team played great football and was also based on the best defence we ever had. But what did he do? He got rid of all the skilful play- makers ( Davis, Thomas, Rocastle) and filled his side with very average grafters ( Morrow, Selley,Hillier, Jenson to name only a few!!) Why change a winning formula? Again, the outcome, as with Mee's team, was a very close brush with relegation. Now we come to Arsene. He too has come through this same Arsenal transformation. Dismantling a winning team for some utopian idealology. Why, why, why change a proven winning formula ? I hope we don't have the same outcome as the previous succesful Arsenal teams, as I just can't see some of these players having the fight for a scrap at the wrong end of the table. Liverpool in the late seventies and through the eighties did not change their philosophy, even with a succession of different 'in-house' managers they were continually successful. Ferguson has done the same at United. It took him six years to get a Championship winning side and has not looked back. Year after year he has replaced old with new, ( granted he has had a lot of money to spend)but he hasn't changed his football winning philosophy. Why do 'WINNING' Arsenal managers go through this mind changing experience and throw away all the good work done?

@Mandy Dodd- I really hope that we are all going to be falling in love all over again in August because I'm sick of Arsene giving us lots of foreplay but no penetration. He's either become a tease or his age is starting to catch up with him and he's no longer able to perform as he used to! Keep smiling Gooners and don't EVER stop dreaming

Glad most of you thought it was funny and I'm even happier that some of you think it's mostly true. @Tayo- to even think that Wenger would read this is TOO funny to even imagine!! I'd love to see the look on his face! But I very much doubt that AW will ever read anything written by any of us fans. Maybe I should post it to him? In French?

You fail to mention that Spanish league more technical than Premier League.English football is over rated and we will see in the finals what technical ability does over fast and clumsy challenges. Am not a fan of Spanish football because of racism but thier technical ability is 2nd to none.

as funny as your article is and you must adopt a funny look at things with Arsenal at the moment, you really cant just blame AW for everything thats wrong. We sit in our seats week after week and see with startling regularity, players underperforming with a total lack of ideas and belief. Strikers that refuse to attack goal, defenders backing off, unwilling to engage, the only part of our game that shows any sign of life is midfield yet what good is that. The opposition just sit back laughing at us then punting one over the top which invariable leads to them scoring as the back four have either become part of the midfield or are retreating in panic... Now like i said, we see this each week from our comfortable seats so by the law of averages, the people that matter and can make a difference must be able to see it too.The only explaination you can come up with is that they are not like you or me who want to see their team win, they are just hangers on who see the team as just a means to an end in making money. You can hear their conversation in the wind and it goes something like this....Arsene, do not worry for the fans have no voice or power..we are the people that count and we say 'keep us in the champions league and we will feather your nest with all you desire....providing its not cup shaped'....

Was it more a case of liking Viera, Petit, Pires et al. Wenger did not have to manage that team - they ran themselves Thats what we were loving - not the manager. Since all the leaders left he has had to take up the slack.Trouble is he is too hung up on the artistry to take care of the business of football. Howabout Parlour getting behind the scenes ..... to name one giant.

Be careful what you wish for, there are some big glamour pusses abroad who desperatly covet what we have. Yes familiarity can breed al sorts However..... A bit of surgery in the summer, losing a bit of excess, a well earned holiday and some new mwmbers of the supporting cast - be prepared to fall in love again starting August.

Well, things are going to continue like that so prepare to be very sick.Wenger is planning to sit down with Bendtner to convince him to stay at Arsenal.Wonderful!! We are talking about clearing the deadwood and buying quality players,he wants to keep an ostrich footed clown who's deluded self belief does'nt transform to positive performances on the field of play. With Wenger's stubborn, unfounded loyalty to crappy players and the continuous backing of the board,it's more of the same crap next season my fellow sufferers.

Oh Joe another chapter in your story of broken love for between glorious one eyed leader and you and fellow AKB's. Where once you defended him agansit any reproach from myself and the growing army of Wengersceptics, with verbal and almost phsyical vigour, you know attack with a mercilous torrent of what you once despised; the AMG posting! You are a man posessed like a lover who after years of blindly denying any fault or wrongdoing and laying down your coat for your loved one, has had his eyes finally opened to years of infidelity. You can't let go of what you had and moved on and so now pillory the former subject of your devotion. It is easy to be gracious and serene when you win all the time. Wengers arrogance and total lack of humility and grace when the tide turned against him, smashed my bond 3 years ago. So Joe don't hang on to this angst and dismay, move on before your life becomes a 24/7 anti-wenger rant!

Something does have to change now Joe, I can not bear any longer the level of complacency within the club's hierarchy and the broken promises of being able to compete at the top level regarding transfers. I just don't know where Wenger is going with this squad and the problem is, it seems, neither does he.

I wonder how much he has changed. He built on what was already there when he arrived. He's said before the '98 team was 'not my team' and that influence continued up to 2004. I think this is what you get with pure, unadulterated Wenger.

You are so right my friend Arsene has change as a person and I think the Champions League final when we lost to Barca Arsene has not been the same man he was! He must realise he has to go back to basics be the man we loved having a backbone on his team and build winners who understand the values the history and are fit to wear the Arsenal shirt. The Stoke game was the final straw for me as some players thought of their summer holidays and didn't bother playing for Arsenal FC. I think there will be big changes at the club now starting with the board to wengers number two who is too weak for me and 7 players must go and don't understand how lucky they are to wear the famous Arsenal shirt!

Exactly, many of us Arsene knows not brigade still have warm feelings for the man but he is testing us all with his incredible stubbornness and stupid and arrogant demeanour and ridicilious decisons.i would love nothing more then he reinvented himself and the Arsenal side but he is no Alex Ferguson and even more pigheaded then the scot.

Just read that AST has urget it's members not to take up on Kroenke's offer, good call! That's the kind of action we need now! Spot on! As fans, ordinary people who support this club MUST have their say, otherwise, must be there to criticise subjectively, Kroeke has made no attempt to win us over, in any shape or form, perhaps Joe, Arsene has been 2 timing you all along? HAHA! Usmanov and his shares may well be the only thing that stops Kroeneke and Wenger forming the sort of un healthy relationship you've been suffereing under!

So basically what you are saying is, if Arsene wins the Champions League and/or the Premiership you will love him, otherwise you can't stand him. Right? You really need a reality check, and if he leaves you're sure gonna get it!
