So all you AKB's, what's your answer?

Potpourri of post Villa defeat emails

So all you AKB's, what's your answer?

It’s all gone horribly wrong

Ed’s note – I’ve been swamped with pieces since the end of the game yesterday. I will work through them and get them all up over the next two or three days, so if you have submitted me something, please bear with me

So all you AKB's, what's your answer?
Elliot Segal

Villa on Sunday, if any game, summed up Arsenal's season. Horrendous defending, pretty passing and awful finishing. There really are no words left to describe it and I absolutely cannot wait for the season to end. Wenger talks about character, mental strength and fighting spirit. None of those have been on show for the last two months and if I'm being generous, I’d describe the final home match of the season as pathetic.

Things seriously need to change in the summer. We have a manager who glorifies in qualifying for the Champions League and who sees second place as a success. He states we have qualified for the Champions League. Well, I've got news for you Arsene, we haven't. Because if City win their last two games we go into the play offs and there will be some difficult opponents so there's no guarantees. This season has been a complete and total failure. The blame has to lie with the players of course but the manager is the one who signs them and sends them out onto the pitch.

So all you AKB's, what's your answer? Should we go on with this loser type managerial attitude?

--------------------------------------

I just want it all to be over
Alan Humphrey

1. Get rid of Pat Rice, new number 2 (idiot Wenger already has convinced him to stay on – wonder why that is?!)
2. Full time defensive coach
3. Christopher Samba
4. Scott Parker and one of Inler, Nzonzi, Van Bommel, or Melo
5. Porto striker Falcao
6. Get rid of Bendtner, Rosicky, Denilson, Almunia, Clichy, Traore, Randall
7. Play 4-4-2!

The money grabbing philosophy of Arsenal
Brian Evans (supporter since 1963)

Much has been made of the 6% increase in season ticket prices, but what about the outrageous 50% hike in silver membership which goes up from £26 for 2010-11 to £39 for 2011-12 (for OAPs like myself it goes up from £21 to £34). OK this is a small amount compared with what we spend on tickets (prices yet to be announced) but it is indicative of the money grabbing philosophy of a club which is already in a good financial situation.

Please publicise this and also pass these comments on to anyone else who you think would publicise it. The management should be shamed into reconsidering their pricing policy.

any chance people will stop calling for gary cahill to be bought? what does he know about challenging for trophies? he was part of a defence that shipped 5 against stoke for gods sake!! wenger should be buying PROVEN players who have played for title winning teams around europe and have therefore demonstrated there ability to handle the pressure.

I sent an email to the club asking for a breakdown of where the £39 silver membership goes as I was under the impression that the renewal fee was just to cover the admin cost. Am still waiting for a reply!

I'm with Red Cub on this. A bit of perspective please fellow Gooners. Also, just because someone doesn't want Wenger out doesn't automatically make them an AKB. Most sensible people hold the middle ground on this. Especially those who were around during much leaner times than this.

I can’t see Wenger doing the right thing and leaving the Club with his dignity still intact, and it would cost too much to buy him out of his contract. After all his spin over the last 6 years - the man is immune to the truth and what’s really happening to the Club. I mean if we could all see the weaknesses in the team in January when he could have shored the defence up with some shopping then we have no chance of any change of direction from the man. Surely the penny must have dropped by now? The only chance we have is if Kroenke steps in and says enough is enough, go out and buy 2 decent centre backs, an out and out striker and get rid of the deadwood. I can see a few players leaving in the summer but only the best ones, Fabregas and Nasri and we’ll be left with all the duff ones – Bendtner, Denilson, Rosicky, Arshavin, Diaby, Squillaci, Eboue,Fabianski, and Almunia. Will Stan give Wenger any money? Will Wenger be shopping at Poundland or Harvey Nic’s?? Or will he have to sell so that he can buy, well if that’s the case and it’s not the deadwood but the best china then we’ll be heading in the wrong direction and a whole lotta misery again for next season. We won’t be able to attract top players if both Cesc and Samir both go and that will eventually lead to another frustrating season for all of us. As for the price increase on tickets, then they’ll be a lot more empty seats in the ground next season, especially if we end up in the Europa Cup.

God where do you ****ing start. Sure there's loads to sort, players in/out, new defensive coach and Plan B against teams that park the bus. But get things into perspective too (best defender out all season, 2 new defenders first season in prem etc) and if Wenger does go it aint gonna be pretty and some of you think there's some kind messiah waiting in the wings- wake up!

I sincerely hope for the sake of this club and all the ramifications of having to play a CL quali come summer time that Mr Wenger has not 'lost' the dressing room, I'm not an optimist, I'm a realist, nip it in the bud Mr Wenger, else I fear for you! Man City, a team who've actually won something, forget about money spent! Liverpool, re energised by the excellent Suarez, Meirelles, a legendary man(ager) in Dalgliesh, I felt ashamed when you didn't shake his hand, I felt shame at you being a representative of this club! These two teams could put the nails in your coffin next season, they are getting stronger, whats happening to us? Answer us this summer, please!

There was never any doubting that the AMG brigade would be out, clashing with the AKB fan club however, I do believe it's possible to sit somewhere in between the two. The Club is hardly in crisis, what we have witnessed is a huge dip in confidence due to the age and experience of these players who simply did not know how to respond (and throw in some bad luck / decisions for good measure). What, in my opinion is needed, is the removal of deadwood, the buying of some experienced players and the promotion of some youth to fill the void in numbers. For example, sell Vela and promote Lansbury (his effort and drive in the early part of the season were fab), sell Denilson and promote Frimpong BUT also buy an experienced defensive midfielder who he can learn from. We do need some new faces but above all this we need to work tactically on defending. No matter which defensive back 4 line up we look like conceeding! We also need to learn to close out a game. Three games cost us the title - the two games v the spuds and Newcastle away... We collected 2 points instead of 9 - those 7 points would make all the difference... I don't think AW should go, but he needs to be made to spend any money we have on overhauling this side. We have great youth - lets suppliment it with experience. If the kids are good enough they will push the older pro's for places and if they aren't then they can't expect to play... Up The Arsenal!

    1. Don't have much of an opinion, most assistant managers are yes man, that's why they are never managers. 2. 100% agree, its a shame we dont have a defensive coach. 345 Im a bit weary of fans detecting who to bring, I remember fans wanting Barry and Schwazer wanting to come to arsenal. Nonetheless would definitely prefer Parker, samba, cahill etc 6 YES!! get rid of them also Squallacci 7 100% disagree, our formation is perfect, we have plenty of possession BUT we lack the hunger and unable to deal with set pieces. We also have no defensive plan B to kill off the game.

Man City won FA Cup, spent how much? Liverpool, Chelsea, Sperz, all spent big and won nothing. We need to improve, its obvious. But where would we be now without AW? There is plenty of complaining but few offer realistic solutions. I dont remember so much booing, is it our instant society? I can only ever remember Kevin Campbell being booed at Highbury (although Eddie Mcgoldrick came close) for missing a sitter to equalise in the FA Cup. They (Bolton) ran up the other end and scored 1-3, out the cup!

I am so angry with these so called supporters who boo the team off after a few bad performances, and especially the "fans"who want wenger out, dont get me wrong i am no akb, we all know where we have fallen short this season you only have to listen to these radio sport stations to be reminded of that ,but look what this guy has done for us, i have followed the arsenal for 41 years and i have seen some crap worthy of being booed at,please take a moment and compare us with other teams, for instance that mob down the road they have actually gone backwards this season,ok they made the cl 1/4 final, but look who they played ,a very poor inter team who had changed manager and lost players from the previous season, one of the smaller dutch sides, and a very poor german team , then ac milan who had top players missing and an aging team,as soon as they played a bit of class they were gone,so no buckets of water thrown this year then, also 50 years without a league title blody 50!!!! ,and now some want twitchy harry out. chelsea won the double last year, lots of pounds spent, ended up potless, man city megabucks spent,fa cup and cl qualification,if i were a blue manc i would have expected more, liverpool nothing and the way hodgson was treated, nothing short of disgracful, and that from the supposedly best supported team in the country, and altough it kills me to say it man utd have done well, but with more than their share of fergie luck(will it ever run out), i always thought we were bigger and classier than booing our team, and it hurts to see it, i for one would never boo that team even if they were relegated from the lowest league in the world, we should give wenger another season,i think even he now knows what he needs to do regarding new players, also remember how we are financially off, compared to most other teams in the world ,and i havent even mentioned our magnificent stadium,so next time you want to boo or jeer our boys just look around you, and remember you could be at the tots new stadium (sorry i forgot it,s still only a dream),so let the others do the booing and just remember we are the ARSENAL and we will come good again.

This has all become very boring|The answer is that Mr Wenger is well past it.He has been too long in the job and his ideas just dont work. Its time for him to go and also Pat Rice. There are at least 5 average players in the team and it will take more than a little tweaking to fix the problem.Wenger has made huge mistakes and the buck stops with him,so i dont want to hear anymore about 2 new players will make the difference, its a bigger problem!

Ultimately, the board are responsible. It appears that they are happy to qualify for the champions league and rake in the extortionate gate receipts. If the board believe that their manager is not achieving his targets then they have two options: replace him or make additional transfer finds available. We are told that funds are available. However, if so, why have the board not insisted on the manager spending them in order to reach their targets? I believe that it is because they do not care about success but merely about the return on their investment. When you consider the price increases, new shirts etc and their acceptance of fourth place finishes, it would appear that they care not about their supporters one bit. I blame the board.

Don't expect a major clear out of deadwood in the summer. It won't happen. Secondly don't expect any big name signings either. It won't happen. The problem is too many average-poor players on high salaries with long-term contracts. We can not sell these players as they will not take a pay reduction to join another club. Wenger has made a rod for his own back rewarding mediocrity and players who achieved very little, with inflated contracts. We either let them go for next to nothing, which in the short term does not provide any cash for new players or they continue to drain the salary budget and offer nothing in return. For a bloke who is deemed to be economical he has got this one badly wrong. We will still see Denilson, Rosicky, Arshavin, Diaby, Squillaci, Eboue next season. At best he will get rid of Almunia

The board are to blame for this. I for one will support the team however i don't think it's fair that we pay more than Utd and Chelsea. I'll support Arsenal for ever and disagree with the booing of players, however i understand, when it's costing me a lot of money to go to every game, whilst the directors sit on their vast amounts of money they make and treat the fans like cattle. I believe in Wenger and feel he's been taking the rap for the boards greed and lack of investment during a period which we really could and should have pushed on after going unbeaten in a season....

I agree with oo2be the fans have to try and get behind Wenger. Realistically, Wenger is going to be there next season so the fans have got to try and get behind him. Wenger has admitted the squad needs improving. The negativity behind the club isn't going to make the players play better but I still hope he improves the squad. Judge him next season. If we don't do anything then, he should go

as well as at rice has done for us in the past would fergie keep the same no.2 all this time .... no and we need to change the management side of things as well as the team, ideally wenger should stay but only if he is not involved with the financial side too much as we need him to concentrate on the defence not the cash. ideal shopping list (with reality in mind) any of a young benzema cahill micah richards scott parker- vertoghan -sakho a johnson drogba( for a year or two) the rest we can dream up between us acceptable improvements nzogbia-nzonzi-samba-tim howard- d bent- a tall left back that can cross (or play TV) anyone who wants to wear the shirt and be proud of it. out AA23 denilson vela-rosicky- clichy(all too small & crap) usable for swaps bendtner chamakh- theo (?? for a list wish swap) sacrifice cesc ONLY IF he really wants to go and we get 40mill + and move nasri into middle alonside RVP with box player up front (benzema or bent)

I think at the rate the gunners are going,it would be difficult to see them win the epl. Even if Wenger were to but the quality not some cheap skate from the Jap/Mongolia/faroe islands, there is no guarantee the new guys can jel into the team straight away. They must seamlessly integrate into the sysytem. It's easier when you are playing well. That is why the red faced is a winner. He doesn't waste time .Furhtermore he doesnt engage in marathon passing. If he can score with one pass he will do it. I am afarid the gunners for all their fancy passing are not cut to win. They take ages to shoot and by then the defnders would have swarmed them.bent struck when he was not pressurized. That is the differnce though Wenge may not agree. But it seems the gunners keep on losing althoughtthey play well.I wish the gunners play badly and win..

bring in scott parker, gary cahill, shay given and a centre forward and we would be ok - get rid of arshavin, denilson, bendtner, vela, traore, randall, almunia, rosicky - we might lose fabregas, but the sale money alone would take care of the 4 signings i have suggested - any change AW will do this? I must admit I have been a pro AW fan with the "give him one more year" attitude and I knew there would be some "We told you so" from the AW out camps. It is, however, hard to disagree with you at present. I am not a die hard AKB but am not also firmly in the get him out camp.I don't beleive in being at one extreme end or the other. The big key is can AW put the stubborness to one side, swallow some humble pie and let his ego take a battering by admitting that what many have been saying is actually right and he has been wrong. If he does this it will be like a cleansing of the soul and will remove all barriers to moving forward and doing the things that can put us back at the top. In essence it will be like having a new manager, our old Arsene back, and I believe under these cicumstances we will again have one of the worlds best managers and that he will win us titles and trophies again. We cannot carry on as is, and things need more than a little tweaking now, so if big changes do not happen and he carries on more or less the same then yes we have a problem. I don't beleive his project youth has failed like some say. I beleieve it has done what it was supposed to do which is to provide a continual yearly supply of quality young players which can form the basis for 70%-80% of the squad. This is what Barca have but they will spend big on the 2-3 players they need to bring in to complete the team. This is what AW has not done. Being more ruthless about players not good enough is his other main fault often leaving him with 4-5 average players in the same position rather than selling them and bringing in 2 quality ones that can change games. I would still look to bring the young players on that are good enough. I agree with most of what Alan Humphrey said was needed. A new younger number 2 (Bould). Full time defensive coach (Keown). Chris Samba (no nonsense and EPL adapted). Scott parker and Falcao. Falcao for me is a big key as I think the front 3 has been as big a problem as the back. Despite RVP being world class and scoring well this year I think we have lacked a threat in the box which a proper quality goal-scorer like Falcao would bring. I actually think RVP as a number 10 would still get as many goals but could also be more involved in our attacks unfolding and the prospect of him behind Falcao would see us turn so many of those promising attacks into goals and s many of those drawn games we dominated into wins. With more goals earlier in games you automatically take pressure of the defence by not becoming nervous later in a game you know you should already have in the bag. I would also let go Arshavin and bring in the pacy Willian and I would also add to this list of players Baines at LB to provide a threat from balls in from the flank and give us more defensive stability. I think it is the front 3 and the back 4 that need the big changes and the bit in the middle (if you have Parker, Song, JW, Ramsey, Fabregas, Frimpong and Lansbury) is ok. I don't think we need any more than Parker with Song still good when he disciplines himself to the role (Utd at home, not a sniff for Rooney) and with Frimpong coming through. I disagree with thecall for 4-4-2 also. Many people have shouted this as we won things in the past with it and have not won with the current 4-3-3. Problem is that the 4-3-3 was not to blame, but more that we didn't have the right balance and mix of players to make it effective. A more disciplined DM is critical and a box predator to give us a cutting edge in the last third with RVP dropping deeper to be involved in developing attacking moves. You need 2 specialist wingers for a 4-4-2 and for me none of Nasri, walcott or Arshavin are that. They are more a mix of wing forwards/number 10's ideally suited to 4-3-3

I was wrong. Major money needs to be spent, but we will have to spend first - who is going to pay decent money for Diaby, Squillaci, Rosicky etc though? Only Nasri and Cesc. Too many poor players on too high wages means we have little room for manoeuvre.

    May 16, 2011, 12:57 #6952

Seriously "Mr. Yes man Rice" going to be Wengers no 2 for another year, this pair have already failed for 7 years. But it is not surprising that Wenger likes to have Rice there, because all you see on match days is when Wenger says something, Rice just sits there and nods in agreement. You NEVER see him lose it and disagree!!! As for the attitude/performances for the last 2months and before. The players take some of the blame but ....... Wenger must take most of the blame. He has put together this spineless bunch that makes up our squad. At least 80% of which are at best average players, 15% are world class and 5% are promising youngsters. The likes of Fabianski, Almunia,Eboue,Squillachi,Koscielny,Djourou,Diaby,Denilson, Bendtner,Chamakh,Rosicky,Walcott and Song are all average players who would never get anywhere near either Man U or Chelsea's squad. Only Van Persie, Fabregas, Nasri Sagna & Vermaelen can honestly be counted as world class. Arshavin can sometimes look as high class, but too infrequently (my thinking is that he now believes it was a mistake to sign for us!). Clichy has gone backwards as a defender and although he supports the attack well he cannot cross. Good young prospects are Willshire,Ramsey,Lansbury(I hope he is given a place next season)Szczesny & maybe Gibbs. I cannot see Wenger making the necessary changes/buys, because he just cannot own up to the fact that he has made the mistake of taking all of the heart that having British defenders give a club. Wenger has turned us into a Euro playing side, which passes and passes either sideways and backwards often with no end result. Personally I loved the football that the invincibles played, quick incisive breaks and moves, built from the basis of a strong defence (much the way Man U play) ....far more entertaining and far more effective. There if a need for change in management, Wenger will not change, a Champions League place is just not good enough, lets bring in someone who will give us that extra edge, that extra fight....and lets do it now and not say "Oh well lets give Wenger just one more year to see if he gets it right" ......He hasn't for 7 years now..... how many one more years is he going to be given?????

Have a new No2 - it seems to work well for Fergie 3. Stop ripping us off - how many new kits. 2 for this season, 2 for next season and 2 for the following season. Some deadwood needs to leave the club and this deadwood will bring in good money. Clichy (£15m), Denilson (£8M), Bendtner(£10M), Vela (£6M), Rosicky (£2M), Arshavin (£12M) Almunia (FREE) Buy a decent centre-half, Cahill or Jagielka (£15M) Buy a quality winger Ashley Young (£15M) Buy a quality striker Benzema (£25M) We bring in £51M in fees and spend £55M, Wenger still has his transfer kitty. Next season we play 4-4-2 That is all that is required.

Can't help but agree on the sentiment of this posting, I am still an AKB (just!). I do agree that the last 2 months have been abject and that "judge me in May" has to be visited but the hierarchy. I think we need a big change with Eboue, Schillachi (the worst defender sine Ceaser), Rosicky, Arshavin, Denilson, Bendtner Almunia and Troare sold. We could also look at selling Diaby, Emmanuel-Thomas too if more money is needed. I would love to get: New right back capable of backing up Sagna New centre half (Samba/Cahill/Johnson(Brum) I would make schweinsteiger the big signing for the summer Ashley Young only has 1 year left so may be reasonable price A goalscorer (Huntelaar) Wouldnt mind another striker to go with that but that's never going to happen and would consider Friedal as a free transfer to work with Szczesny and keep him on his toes. I also think the 4-3-3 has worked away but we need 2 up front at home with someone playing on the last defender's shoulder to create more space in midfield for when we come up against 9 defenders. As we all know AW will never ever sign 5 players in 1 year let alone 1 window but we would not lose too much money on this lot but I can't help think we need a refresh. Dan

We'll be better next season with a few more signings so get a life and be patient.
