One non-attendee at the Villa game explains his absence

I’m glad I chose the Boro over the Arse...

Stevenage – A better way to spend a Sunday

After the shambles of Stoke City, the club’s ticket exchange was flooded with tickets for the Villa game, as many season ticket holders decided they had better things to do on Sunday (don't blame them).

Last Thursday I very nearly purchased two seats as I felt I needed a final fix of Goonerland before the three month break. As I was entering my card details to complete purchase, my brother-in-law texted me to ask if I fancied a early evening kick of at the Lamex Staduim for the League 2 semi final play off between Boro and Accy.

It was no contest of course... Stevenage won hands down.

Such is my dismay and feeling of depression when I think of Arsenal at present. The thought of watching this current Arsenal fills me with sadness. It pains me to see what we have become over the last two months since Wembley. I of course made the right decision to ditch Arsenal for Boro.

Stevenage showed more fight, passion, endeavour, and tactical nous in 90 mins than Arsenal have shown in the last 60 days, and the home support of 4,500 sung louder and with more passion than our 60,000 (allegedly) have all season. Hopefully Boro can finish the job on Friday night and then I will be off to Old Trafford for the final.

As for our final match at Fulham? Defeat number 9 for the season beckons....

And the summer? Wenger will still be there, droning on about the team’s mental strength, and all the old tosh we have had to listen to for the last six f***ing years. Cesc will leave... oh well. Two or three unknown Frenchies from Ligue 2 will come in for a couple of million and the fans will have to fork out for another "special edition" shirt costing £50 from the club shop.

Nothing will change... except the fans have to pay MORE to see this annual farce unfold. No more for me. I shall not be renewing my membership until Wenger has departed. The AKB's will want me shot, hung, drawn and quartered for this, but I'm past caring what these mugs think. I will no longer pay the highest prices in English football to watch a team with no pride in the famous shirt they wear. I'd rather watch Boro any day! Come on you Reds!!!!

Thanks to www.thecomet24.co.uk for use of the Stevenage photo.

As a Cobblers and Spurs fan I read the incestuous squabbling with amusement, the Cobblers beat Liverpool at Anfield this season and Spurs did not disgrace themselves in Europe!

What **** off to Spurs remarks? What "go and watch Chelsea" comments? People here are making comment on things that weren't said!

If you're sick of Arsenal and you don't want to watch them anymore will you kindly go and post your feelings on the stevenage website! I'm more than ready to slag off the players for bottling it but deserting the club just because we've had a dodgy season shows your opinion wasn't worth much in the first place. You don't care about the club so why should anyone care what you think anymore? Go away!

The 'dan' that called the online gooner boring wasn't me 'Dan' and therefore wasn't the one to respond first to the article. As for the ticket rises. Its 6%. The first rise since we moved to the Emirates. I can't find anything else thats gone up just 6% in 5 years so get over it. We also look more expensive than many as we include 7 cup tie credits where others don't. We also do Carling Cup games for £10. See how much a season at Spurs or Chelsea would cost for these games on top of the season ticket. If you don't like the "direction the club is going" don't go to watch them, but do you really think Stevenage would be more interesting. They won't just make the Champions League or slip up in the Premier League run for sure, but is it really better to watch them?! NO!

Dan, if the online gooner really is as boring as you claim, then why were you the first punter to reply to this article? I stopped going to Highbury and went to watch Boreham Wood instead for a year. Firstly, because I couldn't get a ticket into Highbury anymore, and then quite simply couldn't justify the sharp increase in prices on the rare occasions I could get a ticket - which most Highbury Gooners remember happening since the mid - nineties. "Born since Ashburton Grove" Gooners, I feel, really have no idea how badly they're getting ripped off...and thus, they resort to retorts such as "go and watch Chelsea or Spurs" etc. without any perspective whatsoever...

Rich, I was at Boro on sunday and loved every minute of it. Due to cost I now share my season ticket at Arsenal and thankfully it was not my turn for Villa. A few pre match ales at the Mutual Friend, standing on terraces, no hassle from over zealous stewards, a sing song(except the one they've nicked from the Spuds)and jump on everyone celebrations....nice!!! Im not someone who demands success, I started going to Arsenal in the early 80's, so I can wait and have enjoyed our winning times and hopefully one day when we do lift something it will be fantastic. But Arsenal seem hell bent on getting rid of me and a lot of other fans with their prices, I thought moving to our souless stadium that it was meant that we could compete with Europe's finest, but just seems that they want to line directors and share holders pockets. I would give anything to go home to Highbury, you can only dream, a bit like prices going down one day and buying players that know what it is to play for us.

''Stevenage showed more fight, passion, endeavour and tactical nous in 90 mins than Arsenal have shown in the last 60 days.......'' RUBBISH!....not more than the Arsenal team that plays its home games at Borehamwood!

Ridiculous. Show some loyalty to your team, of have you only been supporting them in the Sky-invented-football era? I dread to think what would happen if you supported a team that went through, say relegation or administration. Or both. At the same time.

If Boro continue to increase prices, then it will soon be cheaper to watch Arsenal.

to "Dan" and "Romford Pele" - those were numbskull remarks that miss the man's point, which is that the club he loves is becoming alien to him, and many people will agree. **** off to Tottenham type remarks are typical of the average AKB who will refuse to accept any failings on the part of their messiah, even at the point of relegation to the championship. Things need to change, but they won't - at least not the the accepted level they need to.

Nice to see you're thinking what the 4,500 Boro' faithful have been living over the past few decades. Love supporting Stevenage. Won't ever stop.

Thanks to the recession people are finding more value for money from watching their local team, not their nearest Premiership team. When the Arsenal team dont show passion then do you really expect people to part with their hard earned money to watch them week in week out? No, they would rather give their money to a club that needs it or provides more entertainment than Arsenal currently do. OK Stevenage are a bad example but there are hundreds of clubs that are struggling to run due to lack of support thanks to the Premiership.

Top article. I ditched my Silver membership too. Done with this shower until Wenger is OUT. The 'sort of fans' the AKBs want, are like-minded morons, happy to be fleeced, be ripped off, and never have a spine to call things as they are. Spineless fanbase = spineless team. It's simple really.

I really wish i could do the same,it is all a bit more easy when you live in Copenhagen.i usually travel 3 or 4 times year but no motre will i be doing that as long as Wenger refuses to do something radical about the team. But the jersey will be bought and worn with pride,Gooner till i die,**** Wenger.

@Dan I know the sort of fans you want solely at the Grove. The ones which will swallow anything the club and AW tell them, and never ever be prepared to challenge anything and say enough is enough, with being ripped off both on and off the pitch. More fool you for being prepared to be so subservient, as you are exactly the type of fan the club and AW now wants. Certainly not ones like Richard or me who are prepared to question the direction the club is heading towards, which is money first, money second, and if we are lucky football third!

Yes Dan, that's right. He's absolutely the sort of fan we don't want or need. We need and want mugs like you who are easier to scam out of their money. Now pay up and tow the line you silly supporter. Mwaahahahahahaha!

totally agree iam sick of this team and i am sick of wenger, nothing will change over the summer, cesc and sami will leave and who can blame them. for any one who thinks wenger will buy parker, benzema or hazard is dillusioinal, the man has lost it and his bull **** philosphy of total football is a fast, its like watching a bunch of crabs going from side to side to side. the players are a reflection of wenger unstable and fragile, im sick of that man we will win nothing with him. IN ARSENE WE RUST, get that man out
