Clichy: Self-deluded?

On the club website yesterday (June 1) there is a headline from an interview with Gael Clichy - “We seemed more focused away from home”.

This sort of thing makes we wonder if the people who do the Arsenal website have any understanding of football or more specifically the fans.

I haven’t wasted my time watching this interview but given the inept defensive displays at Newcastle, Sunderland, Braga, Wigan, WBA and Bolton to name but six, if this is “more focused”, I shudder to think how the season would have ended if the team hadn’t managed to maintain its remarkable level of focus and concentration (especially as the clock approached the 90th minute and headed into injury time).

I forget sometimes how the team has amazing mental strength. Remember how they responded to the Carling Cup final by thumping Orient 5-0 in the next game? The fact that it took more than a month for another win to be registered is an irrelevance (LOL).

Do us a favour Arsenal – stop putting up such drivel on the website.

Trevor,I have noticed that the primary aim of this website is to moan. There never seems to be any article proposing any meaningful solution to Arsenal's current problems. All contributors seem to do is moan, moan and moan. I have nothing against moaning, indeed its every moaner's right to moan. All I am saying is renaming the site 'Online Moaner' would reflect more accurately what goes on here. Maybe 'Doomsday Gooner'?.

Clichy is a joke and sums up everything that is wrong with this team. I only hope he walks in the summer. He is a loser, lead by a loser. Get him out and take Wenger with him. Get Wenger out!

Funny how the the players you hear the most from are the one's that should be shipped out first, clichy the defender who can't defend, does very little going forward, he's gone backwards for the last couple of years. The great man will see it in a year or two, just as its taken him five years to realise we're not tall enough

Arsene alshould have been sacked the minute he said coming 2nd for next 20yrs is good enough for him and good enough for the board. It also seems most ARSENAL fans have no ambition and accept 2nd best as success,( 4th). Also. We have become a plc where money is a trophy and we have customers. Ill b back though as everything is temporary

Simon8226 Wenger's poor little babies get pay £50k a week they shouldnt have to rely on us the fans to play with passion.Half of them are not fit to wear the shirt. But all you can do is blame the fans

best away record, eh? Pity they don't give a trophy for that. Or for having posession or playing the most sideways and backwards passes in a possession illusion. The ONLY fact that matters is this - Barca have the CL, ManYoo have the title, Citeh have the FAC and a now relegated team has the CC by way of beating the most superior "away" team while we have exactly what we have had for 6 years, namely **** ALL You can try and put any spin on it but that fact will NOT change. NO matter what. Like how the "attendance" is always 60k for Arsenal but there are empty seats galore plainly visible Best away record indeed. Prats

OK i'm an Arsenal fan , went over to a game last year and to be honest the atmosphere over there is absolutely awful ! Maybe if the fans showed passion the players might perform . . .

Clichy & Focused? Focused like at Birmingham in 2008 when he dawdled on the ball gave a penalty and our best chance in years of winning the title went up in smoke? Get real Gael. If you want to see focused look at the title winning sides of 1998, 2002, and 2004 and watch players like Adams, Bould, Keown, Dixon, Winterburn, Viera and Petit. Being focused is about the ability to go out and take a game by the throat and to win at all costs. Not pussy foot around with tippy-tappy football and hope one of five million passes ends up in the net. You should have trained under George Graham then you understand the word defend and focused!

Having the "best" away record is meaningless when there is a systemic fault in the team which means it cannot close out games, home or away, when it matters. Do you honestly think ManU or Chelsea would ever throw away a four goal lead in 20-odd minutes, or consistently concede late late goals in the way we have? My point is simple - if the team had focus and concentration we would have not imploded in the way we did. Anyway we now know that fixing defensive mistakes is easy, or so says the manager - so come August all will be solved. Just wait and see.

The only thing some of our players are 'focused' on is collecting their huge payouts at the end of each month. In fact, many of them would have problems focusing a digital camera.

I think most Arsenal players, certainly the dross that AW continually backs are living in cloud cuckoo land and their grip on reality is fading fast.

Ian - I guess he is comparing those away games to the home matches against Liverpool, West Brom, Newcastle, Fulham, Sunderland, Orient And also, I think you are being very negative in your assessment of us playing away from home last season - have you forgotten Wembley and Barcelona?

It's a backhanded attempt to blame the fans for the poor home form.

Tell me about it! utter tripe as per usual from the website which I think is run by the AKB. I think it sums up our club these days and the 'bubble' some of this squad live in.

Arsenal had the best away record in the Premier League last season. 31 points from 19 games, next best Man City with 28. Goal difference of +11, next best Chelsea with +10, United +4. Add in the away wins at Spurs and Newcastle in the CC, the away victory in the Leeds replay and it is just possible that Clichy has a point here.... Still, anything on the official website must be drivel eh?

LOL Quality article. A team of morons, led by a deluded C**t. Is it any surprise the team are such muppets? I have no interest in this club anymore: hate the manager, can't identify with the players and the fans have no ambition. I'm done. Will be back when the club becomes a true football club again, that has heart and courage. Not a French toilet.

"I haven’t wasted my time watching this interview." Perhaps you should have - I thought Clichy gave a pretty frank assessment of the season.
