Ed’s note – Apologies this is a little later than planned, I couldn’t find my debit card to deposit funds in Scotbet! It turned up in the in the end! I always like to go through the process before posting Russell’s pieces in case of any glitches. If England U21s get through I think we will have our next bet before their next game
This week I’m joining Scotbet. It’s nice and simple – bet £25 and receive a free £25 bet. Use this link to get to the free bet/registration screen and select decimal as you sign up. Unfortunately Scotbet only accepts debit (as opposed to credit) cards so you can’t use Moneybookers and may need to shift money back into your bank account after registering to keep everything even.
It’s been a mixed campaign for the England U21’s with the potential of many players evident but overall failing to gel together as a team. The need for a midfielder to link play and keep the ball such as Jack Wilshere is obvious and makes me wonder what his value would be after seeing how much Phil Jones and Jordan Henderson have gone for. Connor Wickham, a player rumoured to be interesting Arsenal and Liverpool may also get on the pitch at some point. Wednesday night saw a bore draw against the Ukraine and Stuart Pearce may look to change things up a bit possibly starting Scott Sinclair who looked considerably more dangerous than Tottenham’s Danny Rose. Anyway I can see us going for it a bit more on Sunday as we have to win in order to qualify above second placed Czech Republic, so I’m backing the England win.
Once you’ve registered with Scotbet click on “Football Coupons” and straight away you’ll see “England U21 vs Czech Republic U21”. Go to “+14 Bets” and open up all markets (Ed’s note – the England win price was available on the immediate football coupons screen when I placed my bet on Saturday morning – at 2.05). You need to tick the box for the England win which had odds of 2.1 as I placed the bet. After this click “View Bet Slip” and then type in the full £25 to back England. (For some reason the Bet Slip doesn’t open automatically).
At Betfair click on “Football” and you’ll see “England U21 v Czech Republic U21” is on the homepage. Click the pink lay button going against the England win. It had odds of 2.16 as I laid with £20 (Ed’s note – 2.18 when I laid this, but so close it doesn’t make much difference). This left the following outcomes...
- England U21 win: +£4.30 (+27.50 at Scotbet, -23.20 at Betfair)
- England U21 fail to win: -£5 (-25 at Scotbet, +20 at Betfair)
So a small profit or loss this week but as ever the most important thing is that we’ve unlocked a free £25 bet to utilise next week. It should appear in our accounts around 24hrs after our qualifying bet is settled. Let’s hope for the England win as not only does it mean bringing in an extra £4.30 but also qualification to the latter stages of the Euro’s.
Remember, “Why gamble when you can win!”
