11 April 1891: Arsenal 1 Old Carthusians 2.  London Charity Cup semi-final second replay in front of a crowd of 6,000. Connolly grabbed the Gunners goal after a 2-2 draw and a 1-1 draw respectively, with all three matches played at Leyton.

April 11 1896: Arsenal 2 Millwall Athletic 2. Buchanan and O’Brien scored for the Gunners in front of a crowd of around 9,000.

11 April 1898: William Elcoat took up the post as Arsenal manager.  Elcoat's spell at the club only lasted until 20 February 1899 citing difficulties with the club's board of directors. At the time the club was renowned for its high turnover of players and Elcoat maintained this by buying 13 players and selling 11 during his 10 months at the club.

Following his resignation he moved back to Stockton after managing them between 1895 and 1898 – where he had a road named after him, Elcoat Road, which is still there today.

He died in 1912 aged 52

April 11 1910: Arsenal beat champions Aston Villa 1-0 as they picked up two vital points in their battle against relegation. With Villa already title winners, they fielded a reserve side which led to basement battlers Chelsea protesting loudly but to no avail. The west Londoners who were five years-old were relegated along with Bolton as the Gunners escaped the drop by two points. 

April 11 1919: Sir Henry Norris wrote an open letter complaining about the behaviour of the London Combination’s committee, in relation to their holding an appeal hearing without him present to represent Arsenal’s position. The wily Norris eventually succeeded in having Arsenal voted into the top division despite finishing fifth in the last season before the First World War – much to Spurs bitterness.

11 April 1931: Arsenal beat Grimsby 0-1 away with Lambert scoring for the first time in four games.  Aston Villa were at home to Sheffield United and won 4-0 leaving Arsenal 5 points clear with a better goal average at the top of the table.

11 April 1936:  Final Arsenal appearance for Frank “Tiger” Hill.  He went on to manage five different league teams after the Second World War.

11 April 1959: Tommy Docherty gained his 25th and final Scottish cap.  He played 83 league games for Arsenal between 1958 and 1961.

11 April 1962: Fulham 5 Arsenal 2.  This was part of a six game run in which Skirton scored five and Strong scored six.

11 April 1964: Arsenal 0 Blackburn 0.  The club had brought forward their final home game in order to install undersoil heating in the summer.  The matchday programme confirmed the next season’s ground entry price at 4 shillings (20p). Interestingly the publication also confirmed there would be an ‘enclosure for schoolchildren’ with admission set at added 2 shillings or 10p.

11 April 1977: Arsenal 1 Tottenham Hotspur 0.  The Gunners triumphed in the North London derby to push the Lilywhites closer to relegation.

11 April 1978: Arsenal’s hopes of clinching second spot were dashed up as relegation haunted QPR beat Arsenal 2-1 in front of 25,683 at Loftus Road. The Gunners were to end the season in fifth spot with Nottingham Forest as champions. QPR avoided the drop by a single point from West Ham.

11 April 1987: Arsenal 2 Charlton 1. Crowd: 26,111. After 10 league games without a win, during which Arsenal scored two goals, Arsenal finally clinched a victory with Paul Davis and Martin Hayes scoring. However, the win came six days after George Graham’s Gunners won their first trophy in seven years – in that never-to-be-forgotten triumph over Liverpool at Wembley.

11 April 1992: Paul Merson netted a treble as Arsenal romped past Crystal Palace 4-1 at Highbury. It was the start of a five match run to the end of the season in which Arsenal scored 15 goals.

11 April 1998: Arsenal 3 Newcastle Utd 1. Patrick Vieira notched a superlative 30 yard strike as the Gunners stormed to the Premier League title and FA Cup in a memorable season.

11 April 1999: Arsenal 0 Man U 0  FA Cup semi final. A bad-tempered goalless draw was the prelude to one of the most famous replays in FA Cup history. And we all know how that ended up.

11 April 2004: Newcastle 0 Arsenal 0.  The 32nd league game of the unbeaten season.  It was the third of four 0-0 draws during the season as Arsene Wenger’s Gunners eased towards lifting the title at White Hart Lane 13 days later.

11 April 2009: Wigan 1-4 Arsenal. Alex Song scored his first Premier League goal on this day 15 years ago as the Gunners moved to their fifth successive victory during which the club scored 16 goals, after failing to notch a single strike in the previous four, and just four in the previous eight.  Silvestre, Walcott and Arshavin were the other goalscorers in the final 30 minutes.

11 April 2015: Burnley 0 Arsenal 1.  Ramsey’s goal in 12 minutes gave Arsenal victory at Turf Moor
