On this day in 1970 the Gunners lifted the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, their first European trophy. But what else had occurred on April 28 in Arsenal's long and illustrious history? Read on to find out.
1893: George Lawrence put pen to paper a contract on behalf of the Woolwich Arsenal Company with W B Jackson of Royal Arsenal Football Club to transfer Royal Arsenal into The Woolwich Arsenal Football And Athletic Company Ltd
1897: Arsenal 1-2 Man City. The match was versatile James Boyle’s final game for the club. During his time with the Gunners he featured at left half and centre-half – while even playing in goal for three games during an injury crisis which saw the club field fourth keepers in 15 matches
1898: Arsenal 5-0 Tottenham. The thrashing of Spurs was one of three friendlies the club played in five days, with the other two away to Thames Ironworks, and Millwall. Arsenal also played Tottenham twice in the United League this season (2-3, 0-0)

1920: Bradford Park Avenue 0-0 Arsenal. In the club’s first season back in the top flight after Henry Norris’ ‘machinations’ 7,000 watched the match with the side from west Yorkshire. The result saw Arsenal remain in 11th position with the Bantams in ninth. It was Arsenal’s third draw in succession, with one more to yet come – funnily enough at home to Bradford
1923: Arsenal 2-0 Sheff U The victory saw the Gunners seal a nine match unbeaten run to finish their campaign in 11th spot.
1930: Arsenal 0-1 Sunderland. The Gunners under Herbert Chapman lifted the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history only 48 hours previously by beating Huddersfield 1-0 at Wembley - so perhaps it was understandable they lost to the Wearsiders
