The Ashes may be just over a week away but two Australians are already loving life in England. Two days after defender Steph Catley signed a new contract, her compatriot Caitlin Foord has done the same to ensure that the two Aussies will be continuing their club football with Arsenal.

After registering eleven goals and nine assists in the 2022/23 season, including braces against Lyon and Tottenham Hotspur, Foord told arsenal.com that she “couldn’t be happier to extend my stay here at Arsenal” after last signing a new contract in May 2022.

“I feel like I’m growing and improving being here in this environment so I don’t want to leave that. I want to continue to get better and to help the team – I enjoy going out and training every day and wanting to be better and being surrounded by world class players. This feels like the right place – the place I want to be.”

The New South Wales-born 28 year old was one of Arsenal’s outstanding performers as the Gunners reached the Champions League semi finals and won the Conti Cup last season, but the forward will now turn her attention to the international stage as Australia host the 2023 World Cup next month.

Her and Steph Catley have over two hundred caps for their country between them, and both have been labelled by Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall as some of the best players in the world in their respective positions.

Eidevall: “Caitlin is an integral part of our team so we’re all delighted by the news that she has signed a new contract. She is one of the best forwards in the world and has performed to a consistently high standard for us during my time here, providing some crucial goals and delivering on the biggest stages. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together next season and Caitlin will play a key role in that.”

Foord is also approaching a century of appearances for Arsenal, and her importance in the side lends well to that milestone being brought up in no time at all next season.

Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “Everyone at Arsenal is delighted that Caitlin has agreed a new deal here at the club. She is one of the best forwards in the world and her new contract means that she will spend her prime years here at Arsenal, so this is fantastic news for all connected with our club.”
