Prologue

Arsenal host Monaco in the Champions League at the Emirates on Wednesday evening, with both teams aiming to remain in the automatic qualification spots - thereby avioding the need for two extra play-off games in Feburary.

Mikel Arteta's side now sit tenth, down from seventh before this round of matches while Monaco are one place behind.

Both teams have a record of won three, drawn one and lost one.

Arteta's side were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, but they'd won four in a row prior to the game at Craven Cottage, including their 5-1 blitz of Sporting Lisbon in Portugal last month that sent shockwaves around Europe as the Gunners blasted Ruben Amorim's former team.

For their part, Monaco, who are third in Ligue 1, have impressed under Adi Hütter this season, staging an eye-catching victory over Barcelona in September.

The Ligue 1 challengers will be boosted by the knowledge that a win in North London tonight could see them rise to the heady height of second depending on other results.

After Monaco, Arsenal face Dinamo Zagreb and Girona in their final league phase games in January 2025.
