Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaks ahead of Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven.
With the Gunners holding a 7-1 lead, Arteta has been discussing a range of subjects.
Read on for what Arteta said
on team news and whether Martinelli is OK:
Everybody finished the game against Man United with no issues, so I expect the same players to be available and Gabby for sure will be available as well.
on how he now reflects on the draw at Man Utd:
The same as before, and it’s now full focus on PSV.
on whether he’ll rotate his players given the big lead:
It is unique but it's also understanding how the game was played a week ago and the fact that everything went in the right direction for us from the beginning. We're going to have to earn the right tomorrow to go in the same direction, so we’re fully focused on that.
on what we can do to improve chance creation:
There's always improvement and from the other day, we already talked about a lot of situations that we could have done better because the situations are there. It's about execution in football and that's why you can do X, and my job is to give the team as many tools as possible, reassurance and confidence that we can deliver again.
on whether the Champions League is our only realistic chance of a trophy:
It's a competition that we have put in a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy. We're very consistent and winning tomorrow puts us in a very good position.
on if the title race is over:
We're going to carry on fighting to try to win every game, which is the only thing that we can do at the moment because certainly it doesn't depend on us.
on if he would bet on us to win the Premier League:
Yeah!
on how he will convince the players that the fight is still on both fronts:
We're talking about tomorrow's game and the Champions League, that's all.
on whether he would rather win the Premier League or the Champions League:
I'm very lucky because I don't have to choose, nobody has put me in that situation. We have four [competitions] at the start of the season, we go for the four of them and see what we get.
on being happy we're second in the league and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League:
Somebody said that? I don't know. That's for somebody to understand and to put that. If somebody was to say that with the injuries that we had, with five red cards and everything that's going on, probably. But I don't know. Everybody has different opinions, you have to respect that.
on if there is extra pressure to win this competition:
It's the demands that we put on every competition that we play. It's not adding pressure, it's the reality of where we are and what we want to deliver and we are very much conscious that the demands for this football club are to reach the highest level and win those competitions.
on if it would be a disappointment to finish the season without silverware:
We are not there yet and I think the way I describe failure, it will be very different maybe to yours or to somebody else's.
on how he would describe failure:
That's for me [to know].
on how to convince players to keep their concentration in this game:
Very easy, just understand what happened in the first game and the direction that it could have taken in the first 10 minutes. After all the control that we had, if we give the goal away or if the referee would have given the second yellow card to Myles, it's very simple. This is football, you have to earn it and we're going to have to do a great job tomorrow again to win the game.
on if he’s been looking at potential quarter-final opponents:
Since the day that we had the teams in the group stages and you are playing against one opposition, you are looking at the others for sure. And then once we knew the possible opponents, we know them all because they are so good. So yeah, you start to put in your head ‘what if’, but that's it. After you know that, you have to earn every right to be in that position.
on having just one game this month after tomorrow:
We knew after the period since the last internationals in November and the amount of games that we had to play. A lot of players will go on international duty after the Chelsea game and after that, it’s the final sprint.
on what Oleksandr Zinchenko has brought to our midfield:
He's very good, and with the options that we have, we believe that it's a position that he can help in and that suits him. He's played there before, I've known him for many years and he can really fit in that position, and he's adapted really well in training. He had a few opportunities in the last few games as well to show that. So, I'm happy that he's doing well there.
on if he will discuss Zinchenko's future this summer:
I do that with every player before we finalise the season, if possible, if we have time to do so, so everybody's clear on expectations from each other, clarity about how we're feeling about each other and how that relationship can continue is the best thing, and other things to do and discuss. I'm certainly going to have that discussion with all of them.
on if we need to take the burden off Odegaard with signings:
The spaces can be in different situations in relation to what the team does. It's not only about the space, but it also has to be created, not just used. To create it, you need threat behind as well to stretch things out. You need players that can fix more than one opponent as well. I think it's very important to create the spaces. There are various ways, we have different profiles of players. Unfortunately, we’re missing some of them, but they’re constantly adapting and willing to evolve the team.
on not bringing on Raheem Sterling against Man Utd:
It’s the same with the rest of the players. At the end, we make decisions on the day which player we believe fits better in the manner that the game is developing. He's come on in many of the games and didn't the other day, and that's it.
on if he’s likely to start tomorrow:
I will decide that tomorrow with him and with the rest of them.
on what we missed without Ben White in the team:
That connection that we had on the right side with him, Bukayo and Martin was something exceptional and a real threat in the team, we missed that. It’s true that Jurrien has been equally exceptional as well with his performance and consistent. Now we're going to have another option, which is great to have.
on what’s important in a relationship with a sporting director:
The best one for me is that ownership, board and everybody's aligned that this is the right person to take us to the next level. That's the most important thing.
on if this game will see him reward academy players such as Nathan Butler-Oyedeji:
We did that once when we could, and it's always great because they've been extremely helpful, and bringing so much to the team. So, whenever you have the opportunity to any player to say thank you or to give minutes, which in the end is the way of telling them that we trust you and we appreciate what you do for us, we will do.
on if Ben is ready to start:
I think we have to manage him very well because he was still having some issues to manage in terms of the load. We're very cautious of that to make sure that when he comes back he can now maintain that level and there's no more setbacks, but I think he's in a good position now to give him a start.
