Arsenal equal biggest Champions League away victory by routing Sporting CP on memorable night in Lisbon
Arsenal routed Sporting in an astonishing performance by scoring five goals in a Champions League away game for the first time since 2008, while equalling the club's biggest win on the road.
Goncalo Inacio pulled one back after three first-half goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel before Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard sealed the match at a stunned Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Player Ratings:
David Raya: 7.5/10 - Tipped over the lively 17-year-old Geovany Quenda’s powerful shot. Booked for timewasting when after Sporting’s early second half strike
Jurrien Timber: 7.5/10 - Provided an assist for Martinelli early on
William Saliba: 7.5/10 - Elegant and assured while also showing his mettle when Sporting put the backline under pressure early in the second half
Gabriel: 8/10 - Another solid and reliable performance crowned with his goal just before half time to make it 3-0 stunning the home crowd. However, the fact he celebrated by copying Viktor Gyokeres trademark hands over the face observance only served to spur on the home side after the break
Riccardo Calafiori: 7.5/10 - Unsung. Put in a shift
Thomas Partey: 7.5/10 - Worked hard in the heart of battle
Declan Rice: 7.5/10 - Back in the team after missing the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest following his broken toe that kept the former West Ham midfielder out of action for England. Provided the corner right on the stroke of half time for Gabriel’s goal to send the Gunners into dreamland
Martin Odegaard: 8/10 - Stylish yet determined how Arsenal have missed his guile and craft. Felled to earn Saka’s spot kick that sealed this gripping clash
Bukayo Saka: 8.5/10 - Assisted Kai Havertz’s goal to make it 2-0 before showing nerves of steel to calmly slot home his 65th minute penalty to kill the game at 4-1
Gabi Martinelli: 8/10 - Restored to his usual position along the flank and it wasn’t long until his opening goal put Arsenal ahead on seven minutes at a raucous Estadio Jose Alvalade
Kai Havertz: 7.5/10 - Back leading the line in the starting XI and showed his worth to the side by steering home Saka’s ball to make it 2-0 after only 222 minutes
Substitutes:
Mikel Merino: 7.5/10 - On for Rice with the game won on 70 minutes
Leandro Trossard: 8/10 - Swapped with Martinelli at the same time prior to slotting home the Gunners fifth goal on a memorable evening here in Lisbon
