Exclusive: England U17 international Omotara Junaid set to leave Arsenal’s Academy

The midfielder made her first-team debut in pre-season against Southampton but will depart the Gunners a year early

Arsenal U21 midfielder Omotara Junaid has decided to leave the Gunners with a year remaining on her agreement, the Gooner Fanzine understands.

The 17-year-old made her first-team debut in the closing stages of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly away to Southampton, replacing Katie Reid with three minutes remaining.

However, according to sources the Gooner has spoken with, Junaid will depart Arsenal due to frustration over a lack of further first-team opportunities, coming as a surprise to her teammates, who were made aware on Sunday.

Junaid has trained with the senior side at London Colney and was rewarded with a first-team opportunity at the end of pre-season at St Mary’s.

The midfielder also featured for England Under-17s in this year’s FIFA U17 World Cup, making five starts as the Young Lionesses reached the semi-finals.

Arsenal U21 won the PGA Under 21 South earlier this season, and are now fourth in the national division, four points behind league leaders Manchester United.
