Raul Jimenez put Marco Silva's side 1-0 ahead onmly 11 minutes with a neatly taken goal, but Saliba scored after half-time from another Arsenal corner - his second for the club in a matter of days, following on from his goal during the 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday.
However, Arteta's Arsenal couldn't make it five wins on the bounce after Thomas Partey's header flew wide when well-placed, while Bukayo Saka had a late winner correctly ruled out by VAR after Gabi Martinelli was adjudged offside earlier in the move.
The result means Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points - something that Chelsea did after coming back from 2-0 down to win 4-3 at Spurs later in the afternoon.
