A quick nod to Reiss Nelson and an excuse to talk about that goal just a little bit more.

I’ll start by saying the sentence on every Gooners lips this morning; what a weekend of football!

Saturday’s late jubilation, Sunday’s Continental cup win, and I heard that Manchester United may have been humbled and that Tottenham did a Tottenham.

The narrative of this week, as it has been for a few memorable weeks this year, is never write Arsenal off.

It’s strange for Arsenal to go 2-0 down and to not panic, actually, not panic is an understatement as by the 95th minute I was convincing myself that a draw after going two down was an acceptable result.

Reiss Nelson disagreed with the outcome of our weekends; he took it upon himself to give us a match we will cherish forever.

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that goal, I’ve got goosebumps just now thinking about it.

Not many deserved that goal more than Nelson, an Arsenal man through and through.

What a talent he is, what a performance that was and what an outstanding finish in such circumstances for a man that has been deprived of regular football due to injury and squad rankings.

It’s so easy to forget anything that happened prior to that goal in the game, but it’s so important to comment on the overall impact that Nelson gave on the left side.

Extremely direct in play, oozing with confidence and always wanting to get on the ball, tidy intricate passing, pinpoint crossing and silky dribbling, a pleasure to watch from one of Hale End’s own.

Statistics can sometimes be irrelevant in football and can paint a false illusion to what is seen as the greater outcome on the field, but in relation to Nelson’s performance the numbers are simply faultless.

Full marks for pass and shot accuracy, the same for completed take-ons, two created chances, two shots on target, one assist and one match defining goal.

That’s in 21 minutes of action, and it’s important to note his first involvement on the match was his cross to Ben White for the Arsenal equaliser.

Bravo Reiss Nelson, what an emphatic performance to write your name in to the script of what could be a truly magnificent season for the Gunners.

Going forward, there’s a huge opportunity for Nelson to break into the first team on a regular basis, especially after the disappointing injury that Leandro Trossard suffered during on Saturday.

We’re yet to hear the extent of Trossard’s injury, but it looks to be an opportunity for the likes of Nelson to cover his potential absence if called upon.

I could talk about that result for hours, I could write about every detail from that one moment of brilliance, but we can replay it in our minds whilst at work this Monday morning.

Football, it’s brilliant.
