Prologue

Arsenal kicked off 2025 with a superb result at fortress Brentford, that saw Mikel Arteta's side become only the second team to win at Thomas Frank's Bees' this season.

The vital victory was made even more remarkable after the Gunners went 1-0 down to Bryan Mbeumo's opener.

That was until Jesus first half leveller provided the prelude to Mikel Merino's and Gabi Martinelli's two goal blitz in 120 second half seconds that ensured the North Londoners would post an impressive 3-1 win at the G-Tech.

With Liverpool having such an excellent first half to the season nothing more than three points is required by Arsenal when they visit the south coast to take on Brighton on Saturday evening.

Brighton vs Arsenal team news:

Brighton

Brighton agreed to sign Diego Gomez from Inter Miami for a reported £10.7m on 10 December, but the deal could not officially go through until the January transfer window opened.

The 21-year-old Paraguay international was paraded in front of fans in Brighton's match at home to Crystal Palace on 15 December.

Manager Fabian Hurzeler said at the time of his signing: "He has already made a real impression both at club and international level.

"Like all young players who come to us from abroad, he will need a period of adjustment to the Premier League, but I feel he can make a big contribution and I'm looking forward to working with him."

"He had two, three weeks off on holiday, because in the MLS the season is finished, so he needs for sure a little bit of time.

"I'm sure he's in great shape, he trained hard during his holiday. I'm looking forward to seeing him as quick as possible on the pitch."

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on when Danny Welbeck will return from injury: "I can't say a clear schedule when he will be back - it can be next week, it can be quick, but it can also take two, three, four more weeks - so we really have to go day-by-day.

"He is without any pain so that's a really good thing and he's back on the pitch, but then we have to really go day-by-day and hopefully he will be back soon."

Arsenal team news:

Jurrien Timber will miss Arsenal's trip to Brighton, live on Sky Sports, on Saturday due to suspension.

The right-back picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 3-1 win over Brentford, which earns a one-game ban.

Timber is Arsenal's only fit natural right-back with Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu both out injured.

Thomas Partey has filled in at right-back this season as has Riccardo Calafiori.

One player who should be back to face Brighton is Kai Havertz.

The German forward missed the game against Brentford through illness with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitting a bug had swept through his squad ahead of the New Year's Day clash.

When asked if the bug affected some of the players on the pitch, Arteta said: "It affected players on the pitch and off the pitch.

“It is nothing serious. But it wasn’t the ideal situation. In relation to the symptoms, with Kai it was obvious. He wasn’t feeling well at all. He had very clear symptoms so stay away from it, put him in a car, and go back to London."

Head to head

Arsenal wins: 17

Draws: 6

Brighton wins: 8

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on New Year resolutions:

"In general life it's good to have goals, but the football season starts in the summer, so in summer I think that's the time to set individual goals, team goals, therefore I'm not the biggest fan of doing this in the winter break."

Erm, do you want to tell Fabian or shall we: There is no winter break in England this season
