Nottingham Forest host Arsenal in a mouth-watering clash between the second and third-placed teams in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Prologue

The teams head into the eagerly-awaited clash on the back of frustrating lossses at the weekend.

Nuno Santo Espirito's Forest were beaten 4-3 by Newcastle United in a lively game at St James' Park on Sunday, while Mikel Arteta's Gunners surely saw the last rites of their realistic title challenge during the 1-0 defeat by capital rivals West Ham on Saturday.

A Jarrod Bowen header was enough to beat the underwhelming North Londoners, which, compounded by Liverpool's 2-0 victory at Manchester City, saw Arteta's side slip 11 points behind Arne Slot's Reds.

However, Wednesday's match at the City Ground remains important - not least because Forest will be hoping not to drop out of the top four, while Arsenal aim to keep their mathematical title hopes alive at the very least.

Arteta's side had been on a 15-match unbeaten run before Saturday's dismal defeat, while Forest have been stuttering of late, losing three of their last four league matches.

That said, Nuno's Tricky Trees are a tough opponent on the banks of the River Trent, with seven wins, three draws and only a pair of losses from their 12 home matches.

Indeed, their previous home match was a 7-0 rout of Brighton - meaning Wednesday's clash will be a tough test for visitors Arsenal, who will be aiming to narrow the gap slightly on Liverpool, who play Newcastle at Anfield.

It promises to be a cracker at what will undoubtably be an atmospheric City Ground under lights.

Latest team news:

Forest

Unusually for a team at this stage of the season, Forest have almost a clean bill of health for Wednesday's match - with only backup goalkeeper Carlos Miguel (hamstring) absent

Arsenal

The Gunners have Ben White back in the squad, after his substitute appearance against the Irons, following four months out, although long-term absentees Kai Havertz, Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu, are still missing.

Bukayo Saka and Gabi Martinelli are striving for full fitness over the coming weeks but will still be too short for Wednesday's crucial clash.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is out, serving a one match ban after correctly being sent off against West Ham on Saturday.
