How to watch Newcastle vs Arsenal: TV, Live Steam, Latest Team News, H2H and much more
Prologue:
Newcastle United host Arsenal in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, determined to reach Wembley with the aim of lifting domestic silveware for the first time since 1955.
The Magpies picked up an impressive 2-0 win at the Emirates in the first leg, and will be confident of getting over the line, even if they Eddie Howe's side were beaten 2-1 by Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday at St James' Park, which came after Bournemouth inflicted a 4-1 win in the North East. Sandwiched by a 3-1 win at basement club Southampton.
While Arsenal were deserately disappointing during that 2-0 loss, which came amid an FA Cup exit at the hands of struggling Manchester United, the Gunners results have picked up strongly since that dismal week in early January - not least on Sunday when thrashing Pep Guardiola's reigning champions 5-1 in a majestic performance that had Gooners purring.
While this clash is only Newcastle’s third appearance in the League Cup semi-finals, they’ve progressed to the final in their previous two (1975-76 vs Tottenham, 2022-23 vs Southampton).
Indeed, Newcastle have lost just one of their last 15 matches in the League Cup (W10 D4), going down 2-0 to Manchester United at Wembley in the 2023 showpiece final. Even if one of those four draws resulted in a shootout loss to Chelsea last season.
For their part Arsenal have won all four of their League Cup meetings with Newcastle, scoring 12 goals and conceding none. The last match between the pair saw the Gunners emerge 4-0 winners at St James’ Park in the 2010-11 fourth round.
Arsenal have scored 11 goals in their three League Cup matches this term, netting at least three goals each time. They’ve never scored 3+ goals in four consecutive games in the competition.
This season, Alexander Isak scored Newcastle’s winner against Arsenal in the Premier League, while also netting in the first leg.
Another goal from the highly-rated striker will surely send the Geordies to Wembley.
Something Mikel Arteta's side will be desperate to avoid.
