Prologue:

Arsenal are aiming to the reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with victory at Preston this evening, Wednesday (Ocotber 30).

Mikel Areta's side come into the game in Lancashire after an enthralling 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool in the Premier League at the weekend, the fact the North Londoners have only lifted this particualry trophy only twice shoud be motivation enough to want to progress, despite having bigger priorities in mind.

League Cup progress

Form

With only a trio of victories from 12 league games, Preston haven't had the best of seasons in the Championship this term so far, this season, but they are now unbeaten since losing 3-1 to Millwall at the end of September.

Since then, Paul Heckingbottom's side kept three clean sheets in a row and took seven points from games against Watford, Burnley and Coventry City, before drawing 2-2 at home to Norwich.

Last time out Preston took a 3-0 lead away to Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle only for the Pilgrims to drag themselves back into the game and draw 3-3 following Morgan Whittaker's 92nd minute equaliser.

Team news

Arsenal:

Riccardo Calafiori, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney remain injured

William Saliba is available again after serving a one-game suspension against the Reds on Sunday, but Gabriel is set to miss out after being forced off against Liverpool.

Jakub Kiwior is fit enough to start while Oleksandr Zinchenko could feature along the backline.

Preston

Ched Evans, Patrick Bauer and Will Keane will be missing, along with winger Robbie Brady, who was forced off in the first half against Plymouth Argyle.

Montenegrin striker Milutin Osmajic is also unavailable after receiving an eight-game ban for biting Blackburn Rovers defender Owen Beck.
