“I really wanted to get my smile back, and this club has done just that” Chloe Kelly speaks to the Gooner Fanzine after Arsenal beat Crystal Palace

Kelly set up Beth Mead's opener as Arsenal Women beat Crystal Palace 4-0




Chloe Kelly put on a tenacious display today as Arsenal took on Crystal Palace in the WSL, winning 4-0.

She added another assist to her growing tally when she put in a cross that led to Beth Mead’s fierce volley, and she made the run that led to the Palace own goal. 

Kelly’s two fantastic performances this week have caused a lot of excitement amongst the fans and media alike, but she spoke to the Gooner Fanzine after today’s match about how much she is enjoying herself at Arsenal.

“Yeah, it’s been great, I think I always said I really wanted to get my smile back, and this club has done just that for me and I’m very grateful.”

She explained that she feels she is playing with more freedom now, due to her rediscovered happiness on the pitch.

“When I have a smile on my face, I just play freely and I have good energy, so I think for me, that’s what it’s all about.”

She told the Gooner about how performing well when a manager puts trust in her.

“When Renée [Slegers] gives that confidence to you, you just have to show and repay that.”

Finally, she spoke about how the positive environment impacts her play., saying “I’m just having fun, so when I’m having fun, I’m at my best.”

Kelly and the rest of the team will be back in action for Arsenal after the upcoming international break.
