Liverpool Women manager Matt Beard has thrown his weight behind Renee Slegers being named Arsenal’s permanent manager, after his side lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
Alessia Russo scored the only goal as Liverpool made for a difficult challenge for the Gunners, who remain unbeaten in all competitions under their interim head coach.
My questions to Renee Slegers after Arsenal beat Liverpool ?"The fans mean the world, because obviously as a team we came from a difficult time and they kept on backing us, so they have been an important part of where we are at the moment" ?? pic.twitter.com/T7K1tsUlnd

Slegers replaced Jonas Eidevall in mid-October following the Swede’s resignation, and has been afforded time by the club as they search for Eidevall’s permanent replacement.
The 35-year-old has remained tight-lipped on whether she would like to lead Arsenal going forward, but Liverpool boss Beard believes that she is the right person to do so.
“I hope Renee gets the job,” Beard told the media after full-time in Saint Helens. “She’s done a fantastic job.”
“It’s night and day from Jonas’ Arsenal to what I’m seeing. I was speaking to the staff and some of the players, you can see they’re enjoying their football again.
“She’s done a fantastic job and I hope she gets it, I really do.”
