Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal: 

Mikel Arteta’s battling Gunners gained a hard-earned point at the home of the treble-winners in a superb rearguard performance.

Obdurate Arsenal limited Pep Guardiola's side to a solitary shot on target, becoming the first team to keep a clean sheet at the Etihad since 2021 and ending a 57-game City scoring run at home on Easter Sunday. 

The Gunners defensive display was in contrast to the way they were humiliated in the same crunch fixture last season, despite leading the division for a record breaking 258 days - with memories still fresh of City gaining control of the title race with a resounding 4-1 thrashing.

However, in mitigation, Arsenal were without the world class William Saliba through injury last term - and it showed. While City also had to cope with the loss of defensive talisman John Stones this time around.   

All of which contributed to a far different outcome for Arsenal as Saliba, the talented Frenchman combined with his defensive partner Gabriel to keep City out. 

For a third consecutive game against Arsenal, including the Community Shield and the Gunners' 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in October, Erling Haaland also failed to register a shot on target.

City were left to rue Nathan Ake's close-range miss in the first half, as well as a late opportunity which saw Haaland uncharacteristically fail to connect with the ball - as Guardiola's side drew a blank. 

"If you don't win, you're never happy," said Arteta after the match. "But I think we have made a big step. We have experienced what happened here last year and we have come across in a different way.

"We have played a lot of parts of the game in an exceptional way and other parts of the game where we have the feeling we can do much better, especially with the ball in the first phase of the build-up when we didn't have enough composure and patience to play more.

"Because after we committed some big, big, big situations to have the chance to win the game."

As the dust settled on the Easter weekend, Liverpool are now top of the table, two points clear of Arsenal and three ahead of City, after they came from behind to beat Brighton at Anfield on Sunday lunchtime.

In this increasingly absorbing three way title race, you feel there will be plenty more twists and turns before we crown a deserving winner.
