Player Ratings: Arsenal Women beat Everton 3-1 to go second in the WSL

Alessia Russo netted a brace at Walton Hall Park either side of Maren Mjelde’s own goal

Player ratings:

Manu Zinsberger 6.5/10

Back between the sticks with Daphne van Domselaar out after suffering a concussion against Liverpool. A sharp save early on to deny Honoka Hayashi’s firm effort.

Katie McCabe 7/10

Able to push forward again after a difficult battle with Olivia Smith last time out.

Steph Catley 7.5/10

A little unlucky in her involvement for Toni Payne’s equaliser, with the ball hitting Catley and falling favourably for the Everton forward. Headed onto the crossbar and hit the post in quick succession in the second half.

Leah Williamson 7.5/10

Pushed into midfield when Arsenal advanced up the pitch. Becomes the Gunners’ all-time leading WSL appearance maker with 158 games.

Emily Fox 8/10

Still building her relationship with Chloe Kelly on Arsenal’s right side. A brilliant reverse pass to slip Alessia Russo in behind in the build up to Caitlin Foord’s strike.

Lia Walti 7/10

Caught in two minds to gift Everton possession for their equaliser. Ambitious in possession with a number of firm direct passes into the box.

Kim Little 8/10

Excellent work to assist Alessia Russo’s opener. A willing runner, making a host of late darts towards the penalty area as Arsenal looked to break Everton down, and carrying the ball well.

Mariona Caldentey 7/10

Swapped wings with Chloe Kelly midway through the first half before moving into the number ten role after Arsenal made a quadruple substitution.

Frida Maanum 7/10

Tidy in possession in a congested midfield, coming close with a couple of second half efforts

Chloe Kelly 7/10

Constantly lively on the right wing- raring to go in every game she plays having missed the Liverpool defeat due to being cup-tied.

Alessia Russo 8.5/10

Netted her 9th WSL goal of the season to put Arsenal in front, although Courtney Brosnan should have done better. Almost made it 2-1 when her first-time effort just evaded the crossbar, before sealing the deal in the 90th minute, rounding Brosnan and finding the net.

Caitlin Foord (Sub, 61’) 7.5/10

A close-range finish to put Arsenal 2-1 up with her first touch after coming on, although it appears to have gone down as an own goal.

Beth Mead (Sub, 61’) 8/10

Replaced Kelly and caused Everton problems, involved in Arsenal’s second goal and assisted the third.

Stina Blackstenius (Sub, 62’) 6.5/10

Led the line well after being introduced, although continuing to be perpetually offside. Passed up some good chances.

Kyra Cooney-Cross (Sub, 62’) 7/10

Held the midfield together, with Little and Walti taken off as part of Slegers’ quadruple change.

Lina Hurtig (Sub, 87’)

Came on at right-back after Fox received treatment!
