Player ratings:
Daphne van Domselaar 7/10
Returned from her concussion and did not face a shot on target from Liverpool. Yet another clean sheet for the Dutch international.
Katie McCabe 7.5/10
Renewed hostilities with the pacy Olivia Smith, who caused McCabe and Arsenal many problems in Liverpool’s FA Cup win at Meadow Park. Replaced at half-time with Slegers taking no risks after McCabe was booked.
Steph Catley 7.5/10
Little for the Australian defender to do at the back.
Leah Williamson 8/10
Good in the air and excellent with her long-range passing, including to set up Beth Mead for Jasmine Matthews’ second own goal.
Emily Fox 7/10
A quieter evening than Tuesday’s battle with Linda Caicedo- they meet again in the second leg on Wednesday.
Kim Little 8/10
Dictated play in midfield with Mariona pushing up higher. Arsenal’s skipper was everywhere, and her energy made it 2-0, a low cross turned in by Liverpool defender Jasmine Matthews.
Mariona Caldentey 8/10
Started in the double pivot with Kim Little and was able to be creative from a deeper role. A wonderful finish just before half-time to bag Arsenal’s third.
Caitlin Foord 8.5/10
A simple close-range finish to break the deadlock, ensuring she stayed onside, before hunting Liverpool down with her press to win the ball and start the move for Arsenal’s second goal. Dropped to right-back for the final 25 minutes when Fox was replaced.
Frida Maanum 8/10
Hit the post midway through the first half after Alessia Russo’s clever flick- probably should have scored. Flicked the ball on to set up Foord’s opener.
Chloe Kelly 7.5/10
Fired over the crossbar after three minutes but didn’t see that much of the ball. Bright whenever she had it.
Alessia Russo 7.4/10
Linked up play well in and around the box, without having many chances.
Jenna Nighswonger (Sub, half-time) 7/10
A no-brainer for Renee Slegers to replace the booked McCabe at half time. Nighswonger was tested by Smith but her pace looks a real asset.
Lia Walti (Sub, 66’) 7/10
Replaced Little and helped Arsenal see out a comfortable victory.
Beth Mead (Sub, 66’) 7.5/10
Instant impact from the bench, racing onto Williamson’s ball in behind, her pass/shot deflected in by Matthews for her second own goal.
Victoria Pelova (Sub, 74’)
Returned from her ACL injury to a fantastic Emirates Stadium reception.
Katie Reid (Sub, 88’)
Subs not used: Manu Zinsberger, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Lina Hurtig, Stina Blackstenius.
