A dominant display from Arsenal sees them win another North London derby, with a brace from Alessia Russo and a (second) debut for Chloe Kelly

Arsenal Women put on a fierce display against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium today.

Spurs crowded their defence but were no match for Arsenal’s consistent waves of attack. A brace from Russo and goals from Mariona, Maanum and Fox saw Arsenal beat Spurs 5-0 in front of a huge crowd of more than 55,000 Gooners!

The excited crowd saw a wealth of textbook Arsenal goals, as well as Arsenal academy graduate Chloe Kelly making her second debut as a Gunner.

Slegers side took another three points in today’s triumphant display to send them up the table, but most importantly they kept North London red.

Player ratings:

Daphne van Domselaar

Very little action for van Domselaar today, calm when she was on the ball, minimal saves needed but reacted well to a Spurs corner, hitting the ball away from danger. Another clean sheet added to her record!

8/10

Emily Fox

Excellent runs up the right-hand side to get the ball into the final third, and as always really high-level work rate. Incredible shot from outside the box to make it 5-0!

8/10

Leah Williamson

Williamson loves to play in this fixture, turned up for the occasion with calmness at the back and intensity where necessary. Little action required for Arsenal’s defence today but she always involved herself in Arsenal’s corners and free kicks.

7/10

Steph Catley

Solid blocks at the back, often sweeping the ball away and stopping Spurs attack. Seems to have grown into her more defensive role really well. Great to see a clean sheet.

7.5/10

Mariona Caldentey

Brilliant goal to make it 2-0, adding to her tally of Arsenal goals, saw the space and took the chance and sent it flying in with her left foot. Consistently reliable on the left as well

8/10

Katie McCabe

Threatening runs down the left, and nice to see a couple of attempts on goal from the Irish international.

7/10

Frida Maanum

Often available in good spaces, eventually leading to the second half’s opening goal – a great chip from just outside the box. Subbed off in second half.

7/10

Lia Wälti

Always a good option in the midfield, played through Spurs calmly and looks safe with the ball. Worked well with Cooney-Cross to hold the ball in the middle when needed.

7.5/10

Caitlin Foord

Great to see her looking fully fit again showing off her familiar pace down the right wing. Very threatening to the Spurs defence with neat footwork and speed. Subbed off in second half.

7.5/10

Alessia Russo

Deflection of a ball in led to Arsenal going 1-0 up, great positioning as always, holding up the ball well and taking chances when she had them, leading to a second goal in the second half!

8/10

Kyra Cooney-Cross

Gets better every match, very smooth and easy to watch with great turns on the ball to evade the Spurs defence. Often dictating the play in the middle. Great to see so much confidence in her this season.

8/10

Stina Blackstenius (Sub, ‘60)

Good run down the middle in the last minutes of the game, but unfortunate to have her shot blocked.

6.5/10

Chloe Kelly (Sub, ‘60)

Huge roars from the crowd as she came on to make her second Arsenal debut. Added some pace to the right wing in true Kelly fashion. A couple of good balls into the box as well. Hopefully just a taste of what’s to come for her.

7.5/10

Laia Codina (Sub, ‘75)

Good to see Codina getting regular minutes under Slegers. Pairs up nicely with Williamson to form a strong duo at the back.

7/10

Kim Little (Sub, ‘75)

Nice to see the captain back on the pitch after a few games out with an injury. Reliable and hard-working as always.

7/10

Jenna Nighswonger (Sub, ‘86)

Looked more comfortable today than in her last appearance, not many minutes for the American but nice to see her get a warm reception at the Emirates.

6.5/10

Subs not used:

Manuela Zinsberger, Amanda Ilestedt, Katie Reid, Beth Mead
