Alessia Russo netted her second brace in as many games, with Frida Maanum also on target to help Arsenal Women beat Valerenga 3-1.
Renee Slegers’ side remain second in Group C, and take on leaders Bayern Munich at Meadow Park in their final group game next week.
Player ratings:
Manu Zinsberger 7/10
An early save after her misplaced long-ball saw Olaug Tvedten bear down on goal, before denying Emma Stolen Godo well late on. Nothing she could have done about Tilde Lindwall’s volley.
Katie McCabe 7.5/10
Captained the Gunners and was able to enjoy an attacking role at left-back, with little defending to do for the most part.
Laia Codina 7.5/10
Replaced Steph Catley at left centre-back and was solid in defence and on the ball.
Lotte Wubben-Moy 7.5/10
Tested by Valerenga’s front three on occasion but was very efficient in possession, passing forward well.
Katie Reid 7.5/10
Made her first competitive start for the Gunners, slightly out of her usual central defence position, at right-back. Seemed to grow in confidence as the game went on, making overlapping runs down the right side.
Frida Maanum 8/10
Neat footwork and pass to set up Russo’s opener before adding a goal of her own on her return to Oslo. The Norway international played for Valerenga’s rivals Lyn early on in her career, making tonight’s display even sweeter for her.
Kyra Cooney-Cross 7.5/10
Partered Mariona again at the base of midfield and was excellent on the ball, keeping the midfield ticking over.
Mariona Caldentey 7.5/10
Energetic and interchanged well with Arsenal’s attackers, as was the case in Sunday’s win over Aston Villa. Seems to be effective wherever on the pitch Renee Slegers plays the former Barcelona attacking midfielder.
Alessia Russo 8.5/10
Started at left-wing and drove into the box frequently, cutting onto her right foot to hit Arsenal’s opener in style. A clever cushioned volley to complete her second brace in as many games.
Caitlin Foord 8.5/10
Jinked into the box to square for Maanum as Arsenal doubled their lead, and found plenty of joy on the right wing throughout, also assisting Russo’s second goal with a perfectly-placed cross.
Stina Blackstenius 6.5/10
Always seems to create good chances for herself but needs to be doing more in front of goal, missing a couple of promising opportunities tonight. Rattled the post late on from close range.
Laura Wienroither (Sub, 68’) 7/10
Came on for Reid as she continues to build up minutes after returning from injury.
Rosa Kafaji (Sub, 68’) 7/10
Replaced Foord and was given something of a free role in attacking midfield, popping up everywhere.
Lina Hurtig (Sub, 68’) 7/10
Has been impactful from the bench under Renee Slegers and made some clever runs into the penalty area to create chances.
Kathrine Kuhl (Sub, 77’)
Freya Godfrey (Sub, 84’)
Subs not used: Daphne van Domselaar, Naomi Williams, Emily Fox, Leah Williamson, Steph Catley, Beth Mead, Laila Harbert.
