Renee Slegers’ interim tenure as Arsenal Women boss to continue until Christmas

Arsenal continue to search for Jonas Eidevall’s replacement

Arsenal Women are set to be without a permanent manager until at least the new year, with Renee Slegers taking charge of the final block of games before Christmas.

Slegers took interim charge following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation in October, and is unbeaten in all competitions as his temporary replacement.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Slegers said: “I’m happy to contribute to the team. I was really happy in the role I was contributing before and now I’m stepping in doing this.

“But again I think there’s such a big group of people doing a really good job, players and staff, and I want to highlight everyone. I enjoy the role and the togetherness.”

With Arsenal continuing to hunt for a new manager, Slegers said: “A permanent manager is best for the club, obviously. Everyone has been very professional, we need to plan ahead because we don’t know when the permanent manager will be there. It’s a balance to try and find.

“I know that the club is doing a really good job to try and find the right manager in future.”

The interim manager revealed that Lia Walti has remained in Switzerland following surgery during the international break, but Steph Catley is back in training.

Amanda Ilestedt has joined up with the squad again following the birth of her first child, and has taken part in certain areas of training.

“It’s nice to have Amanda back in the building, along with her little baby! She’s doing really well but there’s no specific time I can share with you guys now. She did some bits of training sessions over the international break.”

Victoria Pelova continues to work back towards playing again following her anterior cruciate ligament injury. “Vic was training with us. We had a couple of players injured in the international break and Vic did some bits of sessions with the rest of the pliers which was very positive.”
