Arsenal Women head coach Renée Slegers praised the tenacious Caitlin Foord after the Australian winger starred in the Gunners’ 4-0 win over Liverpool
Foord put Arsenal in front after 28 minutes from close range before her pressure kicked off the move that led to Jasmine Matthews’ first own goal.
“Foordy is so intense, she works so hard,” Slegers told the Gooner Fanzine. “She's always going to react, she's always going to go at her players, she's always going to press.
“I think the energy she plays with and that aggression and willingness to go forward she gets other players going as well so she was really good for us tonight.”
Asked by the Gooner about half-time substitute Jenna Nighswonger, who joined the Gunners in January from Gotham FC, Slegers said: “It was of course because of Katie [McCabe]'s yellow and also being 2-0 up at halftime.
“So it was a good moment to rest Katie Mac, she's been playing a lot. I think Jenna had a couple of minutes here at the Emirates before but this was a full half and she's working really hard, she's adjusting really well.
“She showed a couple of her key strengths in the game so that's very positive and we keep on working with her.
