TAKE TWO FOR DIAL IN COUNTY CUP
AFTER one false start, non-League Dial Square are hoping that their quarter-final Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup tie against Parkside can finally go ahead tomorrow, Saturday, (March 1). 2pm ko.
It comes after last Saturday’s county cup fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Goals (Tolworth) – the former Deckers Sports Ground – in south London.
It's the second consecutive time that Steve Brown's side have reached the last eight of the competition after beating Thames United at Goals (Tolworth) last year, only to lose out to a technicality.
The Surrey Premier County Football League (step 7/level 11) side booked their place in this year’s quarter-finals after a resolute 5-1 win against Shotterhill & Haslemere (step 8/level 11) in the third round three weeks ago (8 Feb).
Dial’s next opponents, Parkside, currently ply their trade in the Kingston and District Saturday League Premier Division (step 8/level 12). They have already beaten Molesey Reserves (5-3) and Milford & Witley (5-0) en route to the quarter finals after receiving a bye in the first round.
With several players returning to the fold, Dial boss Steve Brown is hoping his squad can rekindle their recent form when they make the 12-mile trip from Chertsey to Tolworth in a bid to make the semi-final draw.
The winner of tomorrow’s county cup tie will play either Addlestone, Worcester Park, Selhurst or Kew Park Rangers (fixture date TBC) in the last four. The semi-final ties are scheduled to take place on 23 March.
It’s a big four days for Dial when they travel to AFC Walcountians on Tuesday (4 March) in the top-of-the-table Surrey Premier County Football League clash. A win for Brown’s side at Cobham’s Reg Madgwick Stadium could all but decide their promotion fate with four games in hand over their closest rivals.
