Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo have all been named in the England squad for upcoming friendlies against the USA and Switzerland.

However, there is no place in the 24-player squad for Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy, who returned from injury only on Saturday towards the end of the Gunners’ win over Tottenham.

Whilst Wubben-Moy has featured regularly in Lionesses squads despite not being a regular starter, she has made only five Women’s Super League appearances this season, and England manager Sarina Wiegman has opted for centre-backs who have been playing regular football.

A concussion protocol kept the 25-year-old out of action in England’s last international fixtures at the end of October, and Wubben-Moy has watched from the bench as Steph Catley impressed for Arsenal under interim head coach Renee Slegers.

Whilst Williamson’s last international outings featured uncharacteristic and costly errors against Germany and South Africa, the England captain has since looked back to her best, most recently helping Arsenal keep three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

Russo failed to score in eight competitive games under Jonas Eidevall at the start of the season, but has found the net four times since Slegers took interim charge, including netting in just the second minute away to Spurs.

Fellow Euro 2022 winner Mead continues to be in and out of the Arsenal side, but has also shown signs of rediscovering her form, scoring an excellent goal against Brighton at Emirates Stadium earlier this month.

The Lionesses take on Emily Fox’s USA at Wembley on Saturday, November 30 before heading to Bramall Lane to play Lia Walti’s Switzerland the following Tuesday.
