Three Things We Learned after Arsenal beat Monaco as Myles Lewis Skelly shines
The Kids Are Alright: Myles Lewis-Skelly displayed his outstanding promise for Arsenal during the 3-0 win over Monaco
We missed a host of first half chances, however two goals after the break gave us a convincing win, to propel Arsenal into third place in the Champions League table.
Here are three things that stood out for me, writes Ian Mills
Starboy Saka shines yet again –
After another tremendous display, Bukayo Saka now has 21 goal involvements from 21 games so far this season in all competitions.
He broke the deadlock to latch onto Jesus’s pass and then added his second after Kai Havertz’s closing down forced a defensive error from Majecki in the Monaco goal.
Finally, his late shot was deflected into the net via Kehrer to seal a fine win.
Saka is the driving force (along with Martin Odeggard) of our attacking play and our Hale End graduate is laser focused to help the club deliver silverware this campaign.
With him in the side and in this kind of form anything is possible.
The kids are alright –
Talking of Hale End, a mass of defensive injuries saw Myles Lewis-Skelly make his first ever Champions League start and he impressed at left back. It was his fine ball played through the lines that released Jesus to set up Saka for our first goal.
The biggest compliment I can pay him is that he did not look out of place in Europe’s premier competition.
Left back remains a problem position for us despite several players that can play there when fit, Lewis-Skelly has almost certainly moved himself up the pecking order after such an accomplished display
Time to keep the momentum going –
Despite how frustrating the draw at Fulham felt, this win made it five victories from our last seven games, with the other at Chelsea also drawn.
We have put ourselves in a strong position in the Champions League table in third place with two games to play starting with Dinamo Zagreb on January 22.
Before then we have nine games (at least depending on Carobao Cup commitments), seven of them in the Premier League.
Our focus now has to be on gaining as many points as possible as well as doing our upmost to progress in both Cups.
