“We’re humble but confident” Renée Slegers previews Subway Cup semi-final against Manchester City

Slegers revealed that Caitlin Foord is available for selection following injury

Arsenal Women head coach Renée Slegers labelled her side as “humble and confident” ahead of the Thursday’s Subway Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Meadow Park.

The Gunners beat City 4-3 in a thriller last time out in the WSL only three days ago, and Slegers said she is expecting another “very tight game.”

“It’s two top teams. We're very happy we came away from Manchester winning that game, but we're very humble and both feet on the ground, we know that City are going to come to Boreham Wood and they're going to want to do something different.

“I think they're happy with the three goals they scored, they're not happy with four conceding, so I think they will come and change things and make it even harder for us and try to exploit us as well, so it's going to be a hard game, but we're looking good and we’re humble, but also confident about the game tomorrow.”

Slegers also revealed that winger Caitlin Foord is back available for selection after going off injured against Chelsea in January. Arsenal are also boosted by the return of Katie McCabe from a two-match suspension.

Lina Hurtig remains sidelined, “recovering from a muscle injury,” said Slegers. “The exact prognosis I can't share at the moment, but she's doing work on the pitch.”

Asked about how she keeps calm on the touchline during end-to-end games such as Arsenal’s trip to City, Slegers said: “I think my presence is always very calm, but of course my brain is going 100 miles an hour!

“I think it's very important to stay calm on the sideline for me, it works really well because if I'm getting too engaged and emotional, I can't think in solutions and strategies, so for me it's the best way, if I want to be the best version of myself, and that's the best for me and I think that helps the team in that way.”
