At least things have slowly started to move in the right direction... or so we hope. Cesc becoming captain can only be a good thing for the club, although personally I’d have gone for Toure, but our last few captains haven.t lasted that long - Gilberto, Henry, Vieira.
I just hope Cesc won’t follow suit. He’s at the age when he can REALLY become an Arsenal great, with trophies to his name. But in order for this to happen we need to get to January in a suitable position in the league otherwise its going to be hard to attract a big name player if you’re outside the top 4.
The players must stop feeling sorry for themselves and pick their feet up as it is now a case of becoming too little too late. This has to start against Kiev and most definitely against Chelsea and for the rest of the season.
Just to see the players smiling and laughing again, the return of the famous Invincibles huddle before and after the game as opposed to the individual hugs in the centre circle. We also need to go back to basics, defence-wise. We must become hard to beat and the rest will follow, like we used to be, get two goals in the first 30 mins then one 10 mins from the end.
This paid dividends in the past so why not now? Otherwise I fear it will be a lot longer than three years before we see another trophy. And if that happens, I can see Wenger walking (as the Board don’t have the guts to ever sack him) along with the other "gems" we have and our stadium will be half full as people wont pay £50 or more to watch under-achievers, even more so now that the credit crunch is here.
Pick it up boys, you’ve got what’s needed, prove Gallas wrong.
