Finally, proof Arsenal CAN win ugly

Cashley – Good to see him disappear quickly at the end of the game

What a weekend…

Hopefully we have got out of our barren spell now that we are out of November, we MUST follow it up with 3 points against Wigan on Saturday.

It wasn’t a fantastic performance on Sunday, we were lucky that Chelsea didn’t play well and were without Drogba, but in the second half we got stronger and stronger and we should have added to the margin of victory.

We won ugly, which we haven’t done for a long time. We played Chelsea at their own game and it worked very well, despite us conceding an own goal. After that, Djourou was immense, it seemed that the OG made him stronger. Gallas was good and he nearly scored, what a headline that would have made. RVP looked sharp, Adebayor held play up well whenever possible and Cesc lead by example perfectly.

It was so good to see the likes of Terry and Cashley head straight down the tunnel after the final whistle. Also, upon reading Joe Cole’s comments in the Sunday newspapers, all I can say to him is two league titles in 50 years and a couple of "can’t-care-less” cups makes you a bigger club?? Yes, the last trophy we won was in 2005 but three league titles, with an unbeaten season thrown in plus defending the FA Cup and winning it umpteen times says it all.

The only reason they are where they are is because of Abramovich and without him they’d be in League 1 and this is coming from a man who couldn’t wait to jump ship when West Ham got relegated. Out of the big four it’s they who are the ones who have no history.

However great the result, there were a couple of flaws. Alex Song is not a midfielder, in any shape or form. Denilson is out of puff and needs a rest and Almunia has had too many bangs on the head in recent weeks and it’s showing. I don’t know what was said at half-time and by who but it did the trick. The gap is now 7 points but we play the scousers at home in three weeks. Hopefully we can make progress before then and it wll be a clean sweep of victories against the ‘other three’.

As for the ‘kids’ tonight at Burnley, we will see how good this bunch really are at a cold, wet and windy ground against a very physical Championship side. But they should come through it and give the boss a positive selection headache for once.

Same again please lads.
