I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve every time I get a ticket for The Arsenal

A Bristol based Arsenal fan politely requests the less vocal supporters give up their memberships

I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve every time I get a ticket for The Arsenal

The new Highbury Library…

I regularly scan the pages of Online Gooner, always interested to read what other Gooners are saying about our beloved club. I felt the time was right for me to have my say!

I'm a Bristol based Arsenal fan and have supported Arsenal for almost 18 years now. Why do I support Arsenal when I live in Bristol I hear you ask, particularly as I live a stone’s throw from Ashton Gate (home to Bristol City FC)? Well, apart from spending a lot of time visiting my Nan's in Southgate, North London when I was a kid, quickly acquiring an affiliation with the Gunnners, it was also my Dad's team! I went to my first game at Highbury against Crystal Palace in 1991, Arsenal winning 4-1. From that moment in my life, Arsenal was in my blood and always will be. I still remember standing in the enclosure between the North Bank and the East Stand desperately trying to see over people's heads. It was a time when football was football and you could go along to a match on the day and pay at the turnstile. One of the vivid memories of my first game was the man selling peanuts at half time. Nowadays, this is replaced by the Gunnersaurus firing T-Shirts (I think that's what they are?) from some kind of air cannon!?! How the game has changed!

I'm all for the 60,000 seater Emirates stadium. From a selfish point of view, I am able to get up to more games a season nowadays. I am a red member, so it was extremely hard to obtain tickets whilst at Highbury under the Wenger era. Now, I can usually get up to half a dozen league games (against the lesser teams) and to as many Carling Cup games and Brazil internationals as I like! My most recent visit was the game against Wigan at the weekend just passed.

I for one, do get extremely frustrated with the new breed of fans that are at the club. The lack of atmosphere within the stadium is sometimes embarrassing, particularly when you're outsung by a few hundred Wigan fans. I am no season ticket holder (don't get me wrong, I would be if I could), but I am passionate about The Arsenal and I always ensure I sing up and get behind my team.

Nothing more frustrates me when I see the people sat around me in silence. Why do these people come? These are the people that are stopping me from buying a season ticket or even a silver level membership. These are the people who are stopping me from seeing my beloved Arsenal more often and against the likes of United, Chelski, Spuds etc. It's a four hour round trip in the car to get to Arsenal, not to mention the cost of fuel and general commitment to a whole day. I do it, because I love doing it and I always will. I suggest the people who go to the E******s and boo our own players, don't get behind the team, should in fact give up their seat and go shopping at weekends instead!

I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve every time I get a ticket for The Arsenal. Even if it's not a classic like the game against Wigan, I still smile during the two hour drive back home from Cockfosters tube station, knowing that I again have been to see my team play. I feel privileged every time I go. So, a final message to those "Arsenal Fans" who boo our players and don't get behind the team, why don't you seriously consider an alternative pastime and pass your membership/season ticket on to the more dedicated and committed supporters!

Come on the Arse!!!
