The highest recorded temperature in Central London yesterday was -1°C which goes some way towards explaining why 58,000 Gooners watched a distinctly non vintage performance against Bolton. Watching the lower tier jumping up and down just after half-time was a sight to behold - apart from the winning goal this was the high point of the match for me. Clearly I don't get out enough these days...
But first the positives. We competed physically against football's equivalent of Mike Tyson; we kept a clean sheet; we battled until the end and finally secured three very valuable points; Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie are keeping the "total football" tradition alive until Cesc returns and Vela & Ramsey are finally being allowed time on the pitch by Arsene.
Whilst I hate to be negative, the positives can't hide the all too obvious problems at the Club. Confidence seems to be very low in most of the players, so much so that I lost count of the number of times we put 15 passes together only for the ball to end up exactly where it was at the time of the 1st pass. With the exception of the afore-mentioned van Persie and Nasri, there was little creativity although Bolton's 10 man defence didn't make for much of a spectacle.
But I couldn't ignore the lazy, disinterested, overpaid gob-shite wearing our number 25 shirt. Ade-barndoor is clearly a talented lad but I wonder what goes on inside his head. To me he sums up the image of the modern, self-obsessed footballer - I swear he spent all 88 minutes contemplating which night-club he was heading for later that evening.
I don't think he won a single aerial challenge with Shittu, his link play was awful, his attitude stinks and as for his chance in the second half - how many touches did he want before shooting? I've seen ice-ages move faster than he did. A couple of blokes behind me were also getting wound up by him and they started a very loud discussion about his new salary - they eventually settled on £60,000 per week that he collects for doing (in their words) "f*** all you lazy b******!" I didn't like to point out that it is actually £80,000 per week for doing f*** all. Am I alone in wishing that we had kept Hleb & Flamini and sold Ade-barndoor for £25million this summer?
With confidence low, key players injured and Champions League football far from guaranteed, Arsenal can't afford to be paying £4million a year to an under-performing, walking ego. In a way though it was a shame Ade-barndoor was substituted as I was hoping he would swap shirts with Shittu at the end - I was then going to mount a one man pitch invasion, take the TU from Shittu's shirt and weld it to his greedy back!!
