Monday night was the first time in a ages I have left Ashburton feeling totally happy and fulfilled by my latest fix of Arsenal FC. So many good points came out of the evening.
Undoubtedly the biggest being the return of Eduardo. He was truly inspired helped inspire Bendtner in turn, which is no mean feat. The Big Dane still missed two sitters but at least he is still getting the chances, so he will knock a hat-trick in soon if he continues to work hard. That’s if he can keep his place in the team.
Carlos Vela continues to impress with every appearance. We seem to have a better attacking balance when he plays and he gives the team more width which is something we have lacked all season. Theo and Vela. A pretty mouthwatering combo methinks. Midfield is still a little thin, but the returning players will bolster this weakness soon. Denilson had his best game for a while last night.
With Arshavin waiting in the wings, and Adebayor, Fab, Walcott, and Rosicky all due back, things are starting to look good for the run-in. A word about Mr Gallas. I was the highly critical of our ex-skipper earlier this season when he exposed unrest in the camp and went on the offensive with some of our players.
But since he had his armband stripped, he has become the solid, committed and focused defender he was when he first arrived and during his time at Chelski. He and Kolo are starting to look as though they could finally be forming a solid partnership, which could carry us to some valuable points between now and May.
Now we have five Premiership games and two FA cup ties which we should on paper win. And with the return of European duties next week, we are set fair for some interesting and hopefully successful weeks ahead.
I personally feel that second place is still a realistic target for the boys, but certainly a top four finish must be the main objective for what remains of the season.
A couple of cup finals would be nice too!
