The story of the slow march to Sh*te Hart Lane

One who suffered tells the tale of how the police ensured a large group of Arsenal fans missed the first quarter of the recent derby

The story of the slow march to Sh*te Hart Lane

Eboue’s red – they got there just in time for that!

Furious fans were treated no better than cattle as roughly 1000 Gooners were made 20 minutes late for the North London derby day clash.

And I myself was included in that bunch, in what I can only describe as a police balls-up and an example of the police nanny state once again gone mad.

Talking to fellow hardcore goners, who have been going to Sh*te Hart Lane for the last 30 years, it was one of the worst (if not the worst) journeys down to the Lane.

It started off down the 12 Pins (as it always does!) and after a few ‘quiet ones’ at 12.15pm me and my mates decided it was time to head down to Finsbury Park tube station and make our way to Seven Sisters.

Using the tube for that game has been a poxy superstitious ritual of one of my mates for the last 35 years, who refuses to get a bus at any cost.

Anyway, it doesn’t normally cause a problem, but on this occasion the old bill would not let us cross the road to get to Finsbury Park station.

Time was clocking on, and by about 12.45pm they marched us down there. At this time I was thinking this is going to be tight, but I was still content as the atmosphere was superb.

However the agony then got worse, they stopped us on the stairs and after waiting about 15 minutes, it was obvious it was going to be extremely tight time-wise.

So we jumped on the tube, and it was bouncing, brilliant!

I thought, at least were on our way, as long as we get a good pace going, we’ll make it.

But oh no, it was to get much, much worse.

We slowly get off at Seven Sisters and as we reached the exit, the coppers searched us – which frankly is incredible.

Where were they searching their lot? Who ALWAYS create trouble, no matter what!

So after going through this rather humiliating experience, which took again about 15 minutes for all of us to get out the station and be searched, we started the 30 minute walk – with 15 minutes until kick off.

Everyone was extremely p*ssed off (and many in need of a p*ss after the pub without being able to go to the bog).

So we get walking again, on our way at last.

The final blow was not over yet, as I just mentioned many people needed to see the little boys’ room, so instead of the old bill letting them use the toilet and walk down to the ground themselves, they stopped us and it was at this stage angers started to flare.

Everyone was furious.

Once people cleared out of the toilets, the police did not seem to want to get a move on, so a huge heave forced the police backwards, I nearly broke my ankle in the heave as an uncontrollable number of people pushed to get them going.

And then the abuse started.
