Arsenal stewards under orders to eject Gunners’ faithful

The stewards themselves don’t like it, but they have been instructed from above to point out individuals who are standing so the police can eject them.

Arsenal stewards under orders to eject Gunners’ faithful

So it’s back to the days of the Library then is it?

The season started well in the RED ACTION area of the ground with an excellent atmosphere and singing throughout the 90 minutes. Good banter and a reflection on the old North Bank and Clock End days. This is what the club said they wanted, the fans want it and the players appreciate it.

The majority of the game is spent standing up talking and singing our hearts out with no complaints from anyone as the stands have been designed so that everyone gets a perfect view. Even the youngsters behind me have no complaints and say it’s the best view they have had and love the atmosphere. This is why we all joined the RED ACTION.

At the game against Sheffield United we were amazed to see the stewards wading in and telling us all to sit down. When there are hundreds of people singing and enjoying themselves this is impossible. There are no safety risks like the old days as the design of the seating is excellent. We all remained standing only to see a certain steward pointing out individuals to the police who then forcibly removed hardcore Arsenal season ticket holders and ejected them from the ground.

This was an obvious example to tell us that we had to sit. Having spoken to one steward I was told they had been given instructions by their head but disagreed with this action. The police had been told to do what the stewards wanted so followed orders. This cannot be done as occasionally the majority did sit and the atmosphere died instantly whilst the United fans were on their feet at the other end.

If this is what the Arsenal want then the ground will become a graveyard and the players will notice this as well as Wenger. So it will be no good saying that the crowd needs to get behind the team as we are being restricted and treated like criminals. The Daily Mirror is publishing a supporters’ league at the moment and guess where we are? Second from bottom. No surprise.

(Ed's note - I heard of one fan who was ejected last Saturday for refusing to sit down as people in front of him were standing and he could not see the game. If stewards are going to get heavy in sections where the majority do wish to sit, they should start from the front. But as for the RED ACTION section, it's a no brainer. These fans are there specifically to create atmosphere and it's difficult to believe anyone is in there who doesn't want to get on their feet.)
