A disappointing season might yet be turned around

Up for the Cups!

New Wembley: Will Arsenal be making their first trip after this evening’s game?

What a performance on Saturday, coupled with the Spuds winning at Villa and Man Utd getting humbled at home to the scousers. We absolutely must must must keep it going, there’s only eight games left in the league and apart from trips to Anfield and Old Trafford and then Chavski at home, the other five games are certainly winnable.

Andrey Arshavin has already started to justify his price tag. On Saturday, he looked like he'd been in the team for years and he took his goal well to round it all off. We have a game tonight against Hull which if we win will take us into the semi-final of the FA Cup, where Chavski await. Wouldn’t it be nice to deny them another piece of silverware like we did in 2006/2007. We have already proved that we can beat them, and when we play them, Cesc, Eddie, maybe Tomas and Arshavin will be ready and waiting.

They are doing well under Hiddink, who is another great coach but as we proved at the Bridge, we can beat them. Also, the game is at Wembley - so what better place to do it? If you can’t raise your game when playing at Wembley then you don’t deserve anything. We wait and hope that Friday’s Champions League Quarter Final draw will be kind to us. Personally, I would like to avoid the other three English clubs and Barcelona. Villarreal, Bayern Munich or Porto would do me. But, there are no easy games in Europe.

It’s such a shame that Arshavin is cup-tied as we missed his creativity against Roma, but although the team is still young, we have shown the belief recently that is needed if you want to succeed and a majority of the current squad have been together for about three or four years already. Roma away last week was a prime example. If this game was at the start of the season, we would have been stuffed at the Olimpico. But the team showed great maturity in extra time and penalties, the togetherness which we have been lacking shone through, along with the fitness and mental strength of the players.

Again on Saturday, Blackburn tried to bully us and we stood up to it and put in a few crunching tackles of our own and they backed down. There is a lot more stability in the team now, more than there ever was at the start of the season, we’ve come this far, let’s not give up now. Last year we sprung out of the traps early and got what you could call a “stitch” at the vital moment of the race and came up short, but only just.

The home straight is in sight guys, there are two trophies that are within touching distance. Let us spring a surprise on all of our critics and deliver at least one trophy. What an ending to a rollercoaster of a season that would be.
