I was at the game against Villarreal on Wednesday night and had the 'pleasure' of sitting near two so called fans who spent the whole first half berating the team and in particular Adebayor. They spent most of the first half on their feet aggressively over-reacting to every single moment of contention. I felt very sorry for the people immediately in front of them.
Their reaction towards Adebayor was quite frankly shocking. He didn't have the best of first halves and wasn't really at the races until his goal. About five minutes prior to the goal these two 'fans' were screaming for Ade to be subbed. However amazingly were totally jubilant when he scored and needless to say all was forgotten.
This sort of behaviour really sums up some of the stuff I have seen over Arsenal this season and needs to be clamped down on. Stewards should be asking these people to calm down and behave. We see lots of stuff about the respect campaign but I never really ever see Arsenal actively dealing with these types of people who are not only ruining other real supporters enjoyment of the game but also making an environment that is aggressive and threatening to those around them. I can see why people would not want to bring children to a game if they have to risk sitting near people like this.
I'm all for chanting and making noise at the game in support of your team but violent and aggressive negative behaviour needs to be removed from the stands.
(Ed’s note – I am aware that if there are complaints made to the club about the behaviour of particular individuals Arsenal do take steps to monitor the future actions of those complained about. This can lead to those whose behaviour the club agree is unacceptable being banned. You do not necessarily hear about it, but it does happen.)
