My Nightmare Journey From Arsenal

Another stayer leaps to the defence of the early leavers

My Nightmare Journey From Arsenal

Hmmm. Maybe buying one of those local flats might not be such a bad idea

I would just like to add my little bit to this debate, like many after eight years on the waiting list my eight year old son and I are the proud owners of season tickets. Please bear with me on this.

We attended the Porto game in the week and this is how our day went: Took a couple of hours off work and left at 3pm. Pick up my son, taking him out of school 10 minutes early. Quick journey home, change and back out the door journey begins. Leave Stroud, Gloucestershire and head to THOF2 via M4, off at Hammersmith through Shepherds Bush up to M40/A4 up Marylebone road, Kings Cross, Pentonville Road, Angel etc. Park the car at a school in Highbury New Park, just off Highbury Grove.

Time: 2 hours 45 minutes

Up to the Barn for a beer or two then off to the game…

After the game we meet my dad (who we’d travelled up with) outside the Drayton Arms, walk through Highbury Fields and back to the car… Highbury Corner… Angel… Kings Cross… Marylebone Road… still there… still bloody there… roadworks… loads of traffic… M40… home

Time: 3 Hours 30 minutes or 01.40am

Next day, have you tried to get an eight-year-old out of bed for school after a late night? Help get two babies under two ready to go out the door with their mum, go to work for 8.30 and be raring to go?

…2 minutes 40 seconds into injury time, Gallas hobbling off down the touchline - I turn to my son, shall we go now? OK he said, we got to the top of the steps whistle goes… journey home.

What’s the point of this? Well should I leave early? I could do, and if I did who are you to moan? As it happens I appreciate what I have got and won’t do it, don’t think I could to be honest but if I want to, I will. Ten minutes definitely not but a minute or two? Sometimes we have all got to think what a lot of us probably have to go through and not what you have to do.

Please don’t misunderstand me here, I am not moaning (really I’m not! ;-) ) just stating facts. Anyway next game I think I am back on the tube, as I borrow the parking space… roll on Finsbury Park… Arnos Grove, North Circular etc etc!!!
