F*** Arsenal, I'm off!

Disenchantment with Ashburton’s east lower from a fan who believes in backing the boys with a passion.

F*** Arsenal, I'm off!

Very much still the library in places it seems…

This season, as the son of a member (I have a red membership myself) I have attended only two games due to work commitments; Dinamo Zagreb and Porto. For the Dinamo Zagreb game I sat in the nominal "North Bank" and saw what all the fuss about this stadium was. The atmosphere was pretty good, a bit like a European stadium but with a bit more bite.

However, I was absolutely disgusted by the atmosphere where I sat against Porto (Blue Quadrant, block 15 lower tier, if you're wondering). Unlike the pathetic "fans" who I had to sit with, I made some noise, let off a bit of steam, and, unfortunately for them, swore. At this point I should probably point out that I was using someone else's season ticket, so my brother had come to the game using my red membership.

Anyhow, I was informed (after using the f word) that unless I stopped swearing, the season ticket holder (a friend of a friend) would be informed about my "inappropriate behaviour". I was literally the only person singing in our block, and counted a grand total of 94 people who made no noise all match, literally clapping when a goal went in.

Not to mention that half of the ungrateful bastards left ten minutes early. Now, don't give me all that crap about having to leave early as I live in rural north Essex, which means that getting to and from the Arsenal now is as much of a bore as it has ever been, but what motivation is there for the team to score another goal or step up a gear if the stadium is half empty?

I felt ashamed to be an Arsenal fan; I was with a hornet who knew all the chants and made a darn sight more noise than about 100 of the "fans" we had to sit with. I felt so envious as I looked across to the REDaction and North Bank sections, where the atmosphere looked great.

Unfortunately, I suppose this is the kind of clientele we attract whilst the tickets are so expensive. Anyway, I'd love to sit in the REDaction section sometime if anyone fancies sending me some details. Unfortunately, I reckon there's about as much chance of that happening as Oleg Luzhny winning "Sexiest Man in Ukraine 2006".

To make it all worse, I've supported Arsenal since I was tiny, and literally watched Arsenal videos for my childhood (Brian Marwood was my favourite when I was little, so that'll give you a clue as to my age), so this is why I'm so unfuriated when I have to sit next to church mice. So anyway, sorry if I've wasted your time with this rant, but f*** it, I'm off to Colchester or Fulham or something.
