Five Brazilian-based players that would improve Arsenal

A Brazilian Gooner does some scouting for Arsene

Five Brazilian-based players that would improve Arsenal

A bit of Brazil to cheer us up (with due respect to Denilson)

I've been a Brazilian Gooner for over ten years now, and since the 2001/02 season I've watched almost every single Arsenal game, as they are broadcast on Brazilian ESPN. The reason why I became a Gooner is not relevant now (it dates back to 1995), but anyway, you would probably be surprised with the number of Gooners in Brazil, which is not difficult to understand, since Brazilians tend to love pacy and beautiful football (remember? we had that once!).

However, we've all been really disappointed with the team this season, and it's not without a reason. Our defending has been incredibly poor, definitely the worst defence of the Wenger era. Silvestre is a bad joke, Djourou is far from ready and let's pray that Milan decide to keep Senderos for their own misery. Not to mention our defensive midfielders, because we have none.

I'm not writing this to discuss the need for an assistant manager who can straighten up our defence, or why we need to buy Hangeland, Barry and Huntelaar, because I know you are already doing that, so I want to show you a few names (all of which probably have a few videos on youtube, if you want to check them out) that you've probably never heard of, since they play here in South America, but that could probably help turning our squad into a winning team once again.

So here they are:

Victor (26) - Voted best goalkeeper of Brazilian's top division last year (plays for Gremio), and will certainly win it again. Taller than Almunia, a LOT more reliable than Almunia, and young enough for Le Boss. You would not believe how good this gentleman is, and since you actually won't be able to see him until he goes to Europe or the next World Cup, you'll just have to believe me. He is a taller and better Shay Given.

Miranda (24) - Voted best central defender last year, he is a reliable and strong defender who probably can't be as effective as Kolo going forward, but is certainly a lot safer inside our box. Also just like AW likes them, fresh and young. But he has been an important player for Brazilian champions Sao Paulo for three years now, and has already played for the Brazilian national team, so Miranda is not inexperienced at all.

Hernanes (23) - Best Brazilian defensive midfielder of the last few years (beats the hell out of the scousers’ Lucas), he is a stronger and smarter Denilson with a much higher work rate. Barcelona made a bid for him last season, but Sao Paulo rejected because they wanted 20M euros for the boy back then. Puts a smile on my face to think of him alongside Cesc.

Ramires (22) - Plays for Cruzeiro. Also a central midfielder, but is more a Fabregas than a Flamoney. Has great tackling skills however, and can be used in both positions. Was the other central midfielder in last Brazilian season's best eleven with Hernanes.

Maxi Lopez (25) - You may remember him, a blonde Argentinian who played for Barcelona in 2005 but didn't work out well. He is as big as Adebayor, uses his head as well as Bendtner, doesn't waste goals like the Dane and, most important, has the work rate of Kuyt and Rooney together, unlike our lazy Togolese. Not to mention that he is as strong as Carew, but a lot quicker. That fella is scoring like a madman in the Copa Libertadores (Latin America's Champions League). A REAL frontman.

I know you would prefer to see more experienced names, but let's be fair, the boss doesn't like experienced players. Anyway, in a few seasons, the five of them will be playing beautiful football for European teams (that's what always happens to good players in Brazil) and I'm just hoping that one of them could wear the sacred white-sleeved red.

But I would not be angry if the boss decides to pick Hangeland, Barry and Huntelaar instead. Oh no, I wouldn't.
