I’d rather have 50,000 attendances than all the early leavers

Some genuine support for Arsene last weekend, along with the usual exodus while the game was still in progress

Must get home or I’ll miss ‘Countryfile’ at 7.30

Last Sunday afternoon in the bright sunshine was most enjoyable. The boys turned it on for 45 minutes, and then set about arranging their individual summer holiday plans. Bet they won’t be worrying over the current euro exchange rates!

The support for AW was clearly evident for the first time in a long while on Sunday. Maybe the fear factor has hit Gooners everywhere since the Real stories broke. But is the fear really of losing AW, or not having much of an option in the replacement stakes? 90% of us are ready to stand by our man, and give him at least another season to get it right. 50% would probably extend that to two more seasons at the helm. Beyond that? Could we take 7-8 years without a pot to p*ss in. The answer for most will be no.

There is genuine support for Le Boss, but he surely understands by now, that this loyalty and patience comes with certain conditions. He must take the team he has built back to genuine challenger status. Finishing 18 points off the pace is simply not good enough, when you consider we were unbeatable champions five years ago.

Maybe I am expecting too much. We are spoilt with a great stadium, some top players, and silky football to watch every 3-4 days, But as AW himself once said, it’s difficult to go back to sausage and mash, when you are used to caviar.

Once again I was bemused to see our “supporters” disappearing ten minutes from the end. In one case a man two rows in front, upped sticks with 20 mins to go. Christ knows what time he left when we lost 4-1 to Chavski. At least around 80% of the ground stayed back to appreciate the season’s work, which was good to see. As for the other 20%? Just to remind you. Football matches are traditionally played over 90 minutes. Sometimes it can be longer by about five minutes dependent on injuries.

Sorry for the inconvenient truth, but some off our so called “supporters” are shameful. I would rather have just 50,000 true fans in Ashburton than the 50 plus 10,000 who really have more important things to be doing than going to some football match!
