Only two weeks to go until our season curtain-raiser at Barnet.
A lot can happen between now and then by the way of transfers. We’ve lost out on Felipe Melo, who I think could have been the answer to our holding midfielder dilemma, so who does Wenger go for next? He constantly says that he wants to keep the team together but he always lets people leave without a fight. I fear that he will do the same again this season. I’m sure 90% of you fellow Gooners would love to see the back of Gallas and Adebayor but if Wenger didn’t replace them, what would happen then?
I read in the Guardian that Ivan Gazidis reckons that what the club are doing “involves developing young players we believe can form the basis of a world-class team over the next five years”. I’m sorry but its been nearly five years since we last won anything so would you like to go ten years without a trophy to get where the club wants to be?
And as for "Certainly the team needs to turn potential into real results; they know it is time to step up." We the fans have been saying that for the last four years but in today’s game actions speak louder than words. Now I’m all for churning out talented youngsters whatever nationality they are but we’ve tried this way for four years and we’ve come close but not close enough.
I heard a couple of blokes talking on my train home from work the other day and they said that although they support Arsenal, they said that watching them this season was like going to the movies, you don’t know what to expect. In a way, I believe them but this season we must come out of this "transition" and show what we are made of. That includes winning something with a decent team and playing the attractive football that we know and love. If we don’t do it this year then we will just be a feeder club for Europe’s finest.
