In response to Peter Kinsella’s posting about his nightmare journey from THOF My Nightmare Journey From Arsenal , mine is equally nightmarish. I live in North Devon, am a season ticket holder in the redaction area (thank god) and my travelling to games has to be planned like clockwork.
The Porto game meant I left my house at 10.30am, drove to Bristol, got a train to London, tube over the Holloway Road, couple of beers, something to eat, watch the match NEVER leaving early (football matches over the years have produced the most excitement in the dying seconds), attempt to get back on the same tube station only to find it had been closed by the police who said the club had instructed them to do so!!
The police directed me to Caledonian Road and I am sure the directions got lost in translation as I ended up walking for twenty five minutes and no luck until a black cab came my way and took me to Paddington (£20.00). I got 11.30pm back to Bristol drove home arriving at 3.30am in the morning and getting to work at 9am.
This is just a normal journey for me since I moved from Essex and just wondered if there was going to be some consistency with the closing of some tubes, lack of communication from the police and the club as to what is happening after games. Also I did forget to add I am a girl who travels alone as well and the need for tube stations to be open in an area I know my way around is important.
I personally never leave early but then can understand those who perhaps do and people who sit around me always say its ok for me to go early as I live so far away!!!
The atmosphere issue is one that has been going on for a long time now, I am sure that as time goes on it will increase – it’s up to us all as individuals to do our own bit and show our own passion for the club we all love. For me, being placed in the REDACTION area was great as I do travel alone and have met some passionate fans who really DO care about the ARSENAL.
