I hope Arshavin has the same impact on our kids that Cantona had on Moan Utd's all those years ago. I dream that he does but fear that Wenger's refusal to buy a centre half will haunt a generation of Gooners.
Forget Ronaldo, Vidic was more important to Utd last season and to me it's significant that Arsenal won titles with Adams and Campbell and Utd won titles with Stam and were barren until Vidic was bought.
I suggest we will not win another title without a dominant centre half. I cannot understand Wenger's purist view that we don't need Hangeland, I would buy him like a shot, with Vermaelen to provide the platform for the creative talents we have to do their job. Arshavin is a star and he can inspire us creatively to push on just as Cantona did.
Wenger must close the gaping hole through the middle. He sets the team up to play a European style that we love and will do well in Europe but we're always likely to meet another English team in the quarters or semis and then we're out unless we can out toughen them.
The noises coming out of Arsenal are that we know we must be tighter at the back but Wenger should show us he's learnt his lesson with firm action in the market now, not on deadline day.
I don’t want to miss out like last year for the sake of £1m extra on Alonso who would have improved the team. With 16 days to go I pray he buys a big bad bully of a centre half. Sol you are sadly missed.
