Platini is a one isn't he? One referee, four assistant referees and what I presume will now become the sixth official are to be used in the Fairs, Cup Winners, UEFA, Farcical, Europa Cup. Where are the additional assistant referees going to come from I hear you ask? Well the lower leagues of course and as a result this will filter on down to the grass roots level where there will be even fewer refs available to do the park games on a Sunday morning. Just what grass roots football requires given that there is already a massive shortage of referees at the beautiful games lowest levels. A pure genius is that Platini geezer. Two more waste of spaces to stand in front of the fans next to or behind the goals, just what the punters need eh? That should draw the crowds in. Sorry I forgot, they don't have crowds in France do they?
Seems like only last week that the four match officials at a game in the Championship failed to spot a goal being scored. Video evidence would have sorted this little farce out in about 30 seconds. Not of course that it would have prevented Warnock acting like an arse. So what makes Platini think six officials will do any better and if six officials becomes the norm throughout football where the hell are they all going to appear from? Many refs already ignore or over rule their assistants so why would they take heed of their 4th and 5th officials? Platini really should just remove his face from Blatter's arse and allow us to use the technology available. It works so well in all the other sports such as rugby, tennis, athletics, cricket, American football and no doubt many others. Is it that Platini is a technophobe, or is it that technology costs without the additional payoff of additional votes? If Platini and Blatter are so against technology why not go the whole hog and remove all the referees' high-tech stop watches and replace them with 45 minute candles?
Video evidence is to be used by the Witch Finder General to burn Eduardo at the stake it seems, regardless of the referee's opinion, decision or authority. But that's different, that's all about some uppity Jocks pretending that Celtic ever had a chance against Arsenal combined with Platini's pathological hatred of all successful English football clubs. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Premiership at one point want to punish some rather nasty play and wrong decisions using retrospective evidence but were not allowed to by FIFA because it would undermine the referees authority? Does this mean now that every time a player in any game anywhere exaggerates any contact made there will be a review of the video evidence? Or only in selected cases if some arsehole commentator throws a wobbly because he's a Celtic fan or Platini fancies a bit of holier than thou grand standing?
